“Brief history of the Hoagie House!”

Thanks to Peter, one of the originals that opened it in 1989, for sharing this great bit of history about the Hoagi House:

“The building was owned by my mother-in-law, Karen Yi an immigrant from Korea. She, her husband and their four children came to the United States in about 1976 and her husband passed away, not long after. She took on multiple jobs, buying a small convenience store and finally working her way up to becoming the owner of Benning liquor, out on Benning Road past the stadium. She supported her four kids and put them all through college… She was an amazing woman! (more…)

“Rock Creek Park and Rock Creek Conservancy will host a special event to recognize the 75th anniversary of the Carter Barron Amphitheater. Visitors are invited to enjoy music, share memories, and immerse in history at this cherished venue within Rock Creek Park.

When: Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Carter Barron Amphitheater (4850 Colorado Avenue NW, Washington, DC)

Ah the good old single use camera days. 24 or 36 exposures? Splurging for the 36 was always exciting. On my walkabouts these days I regularly take between 150-250 photos on one walk!

“Cathy Yae Chung (owner of Meeps) passed away Wednesday July 16 from health complications.

Very very sad.”
