When I was visiting my parents in Indianapolis last month, my mom mentioned that she had a brochure from her senior class trip to Washington and New York back in 1961. I had fun looking at this brochure exactly one week shy of 62 years since she’d left on that trip. I thought you (and possibly others) might also enjoy seeing what highlights were listed way back then for a trip to our fine city (or “the ‘Paris’ of the western hemisphere”). (more…)

The exhibit features a replica of the Greensboro Four lunch counter, where civil rights activist and Eastern Alum, Franklin McCain, staged the famous sit-in, as well as a photographic timeline that honors Eastern’s academic, athletic, and creative accomplishments over the last 100 years. In the post about the reopening of the lower section of Meridian Hill park you commented that it was the first time you had seen NPS use the term Malcolm X Park. There is a sign by the entrance to the lower plaza that explains that despite the popular usage of Malcolm X Park, they can’t change the official name because the park contains President Buchanan’s memorial, (more…)
