Thanks to K. for passing on the latest from VIDA Fitness regarding their security camera policy for the the Men’s Locker Room.

“VIDA U Street Members,

“Dear PoPville,

As a member of VIDA U St, I recently became aware of the installation of cameras in the men’s locker room. Initially, I assumed these were merely “dummy” cameras; however, I came across a post from the Logan location (below) indicating that the cameras will be actively monitored by trained professionals.

This raises significant concerns for me, particularly regarding privacy laws from what I assume DC would have on the books. It seems highly questionable to have surveillance in such a personal space, and I worry about the mishaps that are surely to happen as a result.”

Thanks to all who sent this, uh, interesting, development from VIDA Fitness:

“LC Locker Room Cameras: some of you have noticed the presence of new cameras in the locker and sink area of the men’s locker room. Though they are not fully installed, it is our plan to increase visibility in those areas for safety and security purposes. Let me be clear that monitoring of these specific areas will be discrete and only accessible by trained monitoring technicians. (more…)
