From a press release:
“Brookfield Properties, a leading global developer and operator of high-quality real estate assets, today announced that LUMA Wellness Studio will be opening its first location at The Yards. The local husband and wife-owned studio will occupy 1,505 SF at 149 N Street SE and is slated to open in early 2025.
LUMA is the first of its kind to open on the east coast, bringing dual red light therapy and infrared heat-infused yoga and mat pilates classes, which are known to improve mood and energy, relieve pain and inflammation, optimize sleep quality and fast track wound healing, to the Capitol Riverfront. In addition to fitness, LUMA will offer customized spray tans for those looking to obtain a sun-kissed glow all year long without the harmful UV rays.
“LUMA Wellness is the perfect example of the kind of innovative, locally-owned offerings that we are committed to bringing to The Yards,” said Cy Kouhestani, Executive Vice President and Head of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region, Brookfield Properties. “The neighborhood has become a hub for wellness-centric offerings with retailers like Varnish Lane, Silver Mirror Facial Bar, Barry’s, Mayweather Boxing, Pacers Running and VIDA Fitness, and LUMA brings a unique experience that no one else in the neighborhood, let alone the mid-Atlantic region, has ever provided.”
The Yards recently welcomed Laseraway, Playa Bowls, Warby Parker and Maman and is preparing for the opening of Barry’s, Taqueria Xochi and Jungle & Loom. The neighborhood boasts an impressive roster of popular restaurants and retailers including Albi, Chloe, Bammy’s, Bluejacket, Trouble Bird, District Winery, Steadfast Supply and more.
“The Yards is one of our favorite neighborhoods in D.C. and a dream location for our very first studio opening,” said the LUMA Wellness team. “We can’t wait to bring the proven health benefits of red light therapy and infrared heat to DC and to help Washingtonians become the best versions of themselves.”
At full build-out, The Yards will be the largest waterfront development in the DC region, encompassing 48 acres, including six acres with water frontage, with a total of 1.8 million square feet of office space, 500,000 square feet of shopping and dining space, 3,400 residential units and 7.5 acres of public green space. Now underway, Phase II of The Yards will deliver 1,260+ new multi-income residences, 1.8 million square feet of office space, including exclusive waterfront office, and over 33K square feet of newly reclaimed waterfront park space.
