“Dear PoPville,

Heads up for anyone headed CostCo in NE… they’ve cleared out most of the meat due to the heat and anything still available is ‘insulated’ under cardboard. Other open refrigerated sections are shielded with pull-down shades. Pretty wild ahead of the holiday. This was around 6:30pm Monday night.

More photos after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I just had an exchange with the grocery delivery person that caught me off guard and was wanting to know if the PoPville universe had any similar stories to tell?

I’ve been using Peapod for about a month and tonight was our 3rd delivery. The previous 2 have been great; timely delivery and the last person in particular was really nice.

I’ve tipped the previous 2 deliveries on my credit card and that wasn’t a problem until tonight. When I told this delivery person that I’d put a tip on my card for him, he said “I don’t get all of that money. If you call and tell them you changed your mind and give me cash instead, they’ll give you your tip back.” (more…)

Oooh here’s some tasty scuttlebutt:

Union Kitchen grocery will be taking over the closed Glen’s Garden Market as early as late summer/Fall.”

Ed. Note: I give this scuttlebutt an 85% accuracy rating. STAY TUNED.

Union Kitchen Grocery on a tear!! Their original Capitol Hill location is located at 538 3rd Street, NE. Their second location is located at the Convention Center in Shaw and their are plans for another location for Franklin Square.

Jennifer reports:

“signage up for Streets Market in Cleveland Park. Spoke with an employee entering store who said they will open on Monday, June 11. He let me peek in: bright & clean with freezers & shelves already stocked. Looking good!”

And as you can see in the photo above, they’ll also be selling beer and wine.

Ed. Note: I hear they could be soft opening as early as this weekend!

Gonna take a minute to get used to the new signage. RIP Brookville. (more…)

Thanks to Ryan for sending a Navy Yard Whole Foods update. “They finished putting the sign up today.” Anyone hear rumors of an opening date? I’ve emailed Whole Foods and will update if/when I hear back. Update from Whole Foods: “We don’t have an open date to share at this point.”

What do you think – June? July? STAY TUNED.

The placard posted outside Brookville for the coming Street Market says:

“A new Retailer’s Class B full service grocery store with a Tasting Permit.”

With hours listed as Sunday through Saturday 7am – 11pm.

Justin notes:

“This is sort of interesting.. Brookville never had a license to sell any sort of alcohol. In fact, 5 years ago the only place to get liquor on the entire block was Cleveland Park Wine & Spirits, and now there are no less than 4 places (Weygandt, Yes!, Walgreens.)”

Ed. Note: Yes! and Walgreens also sell beer and wine, not spirits.
