From Free State (thanks to Michael for passing on):

“Let’s come together to help the Maui community Thursday 8/17 from 6-9pm. Happy Hour specials for donors, open to the public. This is a 21+ event.”

From an email:

“Our friends in Maui need our help. While rescue efforts are underway, it’s the broader community who steps in to help in the first moments of desperation.

The Lahaina fire is the deadliest fire in our country in over a century.  Maui is remote, and getting supplies and assistance is difficult and slow.  Rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts are going to be long and arduous.

I know so many of us our wondering how we can help this devastated community. I hope you will join us for a DC food community fundraiser to help grassroots organizations in Maui get much needed aid to the community, and to show them how much we ache for them.

“Dear PoPville,

The teacher of our 1 year old daughter was recently struck with tragedy when her husband suddenly passed away with a sudden medical condition. Sasha is an amazing humanbeing and has dedicated her life to children. She has two young children herself and they came to the US from Moldova. Unfortunately, with the passing of her husband, Albert, we’re trying to help Sasha stay on her feet and remain resilient for her children. The struggle for her is very real between funeral expenses, rent, grief, and very little family to lean on locally.”

We are not sure how long we will be closed. Please help us get back on our feet. Read More

From the GoFundMe:

“On July 8, my 74 year-old mother was randomly attacked at the Safeway on Columbia Road. The assault continued where she was punched, kicked and even struck with the attacker’s shoe. Her injuries required an emergency room visit. A week later she can still barely walk, with bruises and welts sustained on her legs and lower body. Read More
