“Dear PoPville,

I am one of the residents that lives in the Lincoln Condominiums on 12th Street where we had the fire on Friday. The entire building is uninhabitable due to the fire damage and extensive water and smoke damage. While we were in a time of need on Friday during the day, watching the building burn, Ben’s Next Door graciously hosted us. After being in the cold for over four hours, we asked several businesses around us for help and Ben’s Next Door came through. They were so nice and helpful, welcomed us with open arms and immediately started bringing us drinks and food. I cannot express how much we appreciated this gesture. In addition, everything was on them. It was a little comfort when we needed it most.”

A reader reports:

“I awoke about 7:50 am to the sounds of yelling outside on the street. I look out the window and see this across the street in the 1400 block of Meridian Place NW in Columbia Heights. No people seem to be hurt.”

Thanks to all who emailed and tweeted us:

“Same block as the fire over the summer (this one 1626). Firefighters arrived at 7:45am. Had to break down the door and through all of the windows on each level. Sawing through all of the window bars. Unsure if anyone was home or injured. Now at 8:05 there isn’t anymore smoke billowing out of the house and firefighters are coming out.

Update – thankfully no one was inside.”

A reader sends a shot of the carnage above:

“No clue what happened (accidental, deliberate)? Happened in Woodley Park, on 28th between Woodley and Cathedral. Pretty intense… I live on this block and didn’t hear any fire trucks last night. Hopefully no one was hurt, when I walked by at 7:30 am there wasn’t really anyone around.”

Also this morning there was a car fire that temporarily closed 14th Street at P in Logan Circle.

Ed. Note: Car-BQ season usually hits in the late winter months. I’m just kidding – car-bq season is of course year round!
