“Dear PoPville,

I live near the Engine 8 fire station in Hill East and while I admit it’s a little less awful than your recurring series, it’s still not great!

They’ve been replacing the roof at the fire station for the past couple weeks and this has resulted in lots of noise every morning because they start bright and early (including on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend). Today they’ve gone to the next level — they started work at 5:30 in the morning, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve Googled extensively but haven’t been able to find a list of bars in DC that are showing US Open Tennis. We ventured to Millie’s over the weekend and the vibe was great, but it wasn’t Metro friendly and took us an hour to get there. Hoping someone has a recommendation for a Metro friendly bar airing the US Open…that also hopefully has decent wine, bar food and like minded tennis fans.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I got the mail from DMV for unpaid ticket that haven’t paid for more than 30 days, the fine is now from $50 to $100. I got confused as I do not remember if I got any ticket.

After reviewing the date and time information and I realized I remember there parking enforcement who was behind me as I park less than 25 feet from stop sign. I was in the car and I drove away. The parking enforcement never issued or put ticket on my car. (more…)

I was walking my dog and an unkempt man pushing several shopping carts full of items approached her to say hello – totally fine. When it came time to cross the street he started speaking to me in a language I am not familiar with and following me and my pup pretty closely. I smiled, waved, said “Have a good day!” but he didn’t seem to understand. He kept following me, using the carts to push us further and further off the sidewalk and closer to the river. My dog, who is also a medical alert animal, started to get agitated in response to my increased heart rate and the general situation.

Just as I was aiming for an escape route, a nice man on a bike stopped, took out his earbud, and asked me if I knew the person following me. When I said no, he kindly stayed with us as we continued to walk away, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Our sidewalk well is completely taken over by daylilies, making it hard to open our car door when we park near our house. After years of dividing them to reduce the size, we’re looking for a lower-maintenance option. (more…)
