Thanks to Marshall for sending: “I was biking the C&O Bike trail today and I noticed a car in the channel near Chain Bridge Rd & Canal Rd NW. I was wondering if anyone knew how a car got into the C&O Canal in a weird location as it looked like it drove down the bike path then drove into the water.”

DC Fire & EMS reported last night: “Update Canal water rescue. All searches were negative. #DCsBravest have removed all personnel from the water. Turning the incident over to law enforcement.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have a preferred mosquito control company? Since my backyard is my only truly safe sanctuary during the pandemic, I am thinking of finally biting the bullet and paying for a service since I get eaten alive every year and my own efforts seem to fail.”

“Dear PoPville,

As most of us are these days, I am 100% home and teleworking. I have it pretty good–still have a salary and with ample of indoor and outdoor space to move around in.

However the amount of noise in DC is really incredible! I know I had crappy windows–installed by a third party after a construction job at my place. I can hear everything and I’d rather not.

Can you ask the community if anyone has replaced their windows and what the brand/style was and who installed them? I’m especially interested in hearing from people who live close to busy streets (I live off of North Capitol near three traffic lights–sooo much honking and loud music) and who are satisfied with their windows/noise reduction. Also interested in bad experiences/places and products to avoid. I know there are quality windows out there but it is expensive when you have 17 of various sizes to replace (not including the basement ones).”

“Dear PoPville,

A developer purchased and intends to tear down a church next to our small condo building. He intends to build a small condo building. What kinds of things should we do to protect ourselves during the demolition and construction? What are things to watch out for? We’ve read the horror stories about issues with the foundation or work stalling halfway through a project and want to do as much as we can to be pro-active about mitigating any potential impact to our building with all the work going on next door.”

Julia asks: “know of any bubble tea places delivering in DC? These cravings are taking over our household and I am worried”

Initial responses: “Sprig and Sprout and I-Thai!” and “Kung Fu Tea is on Uber Eats”

Any others with similar cravings find a go to open?

“Dear PoPville,

I have a question regarding my neighbor’s property on the other side of the alley. Our neighbor hasn’t been seen at this property in over four years. I’m assuming he’s still paying taxes and mortgage, as there hasn’t been any foreclosure notices on the property. But since he hasn’t been here in years, the property is falling apart as you can see from the photo. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We have been living in our house in for nearly 7 years and in the past month, we have started receiving mail for a “Mary Johnson” or sometimes “Mary Jackson.” At first it was mostly junk mail, but we also received what looked like legal documents from an ambulance chaser law firm that advertises on daytime TV, life insurance information (more on that later), and we’ve had two visitors to our house from confused people who appear to be legitimately asking for Mary Jackson. They claim she has called them to a) sell her house and b) get an estimate to paint her house. (more…)
