“Dear PoPville,

I was at the Safeway in Adams Morgan on Saturday morning (2/12) getting doughnuts for a party when a guy stopped by me and mentioned he didn’t realize Safeway made fresh bagels. We started talking about baked goods and joked about whether or not he should get one (he ended up grabbing a bagel and a doughnut) and we said bye to each other. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

There is an abandoned car near in neighborhood (Friendship Heights) and it’s been there for at least 5 months. There is an ticket on it from the dc government but no follow up from them… Not sure what to do or whom to contact…. Any thoughts?

“Dear PoPville,

I was on a non-Valentines Day date on Valentine’s Day, and my Hinge match brought me to Underground Comedy at The Eaton (he was very intentional in saying that it wasn’t a V-Day date). The show was lots of fun, and I completely love The Eaton. The crowd seemed to be full of couples like us – on a first or second date.

To be clear, my date wasn’t bad. He’s a nice enough guy, and I liked the spontaneity with which the date came together. I just didn’t get that immediate *click* with him. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live on Capitol Hill in a new building with 157 units. Our trash rooms has bins for recycling, but I was surprised to find out that the cleaning staff just dumps those bins down the regular trash chute thus negating resident’s efforts to recycle. Do other readers know whether the District has any requirements that large residential buildings make recycling available? (I called 3-1-1 and get the run around trying to get an answer.)”

“Dear PoPville,

We live in Shaw and had a rug delivered to our house. We were home and went to get the door to bring it in. Within 2 minutes it was stolen. We reported the theft but weren’t expecting it to be recovered. Within 30 minutes an MPD officer arrived at our house and recovered the stolen rug. Thank you to Officer Morgan for all of his help!”

Thanks to a reader for sending from the Ellington’s (1301 U Street, NW) IG stories:

“I should note this was not announced to residents…

It appears to be a very dishonest use of the AirBnB ordinance the city is now enforcing. Residents are talking about being offered month-to-month renewals at $700 more per month for a 1-BR apartment and over $1,000 for a 2-BR, 2-BA. Meanwhile, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Missed connection at Blaguard on Valentine’s Day. We had a three-way conversation with the bartender about his dog. I was at the end of the bar wearing a gray sweater and sporting what my mom very recently referred to as a “cute Beatles mop top if you would just lose the ugly mustache and beard”.

In any case, maybe you would like to meet back at Blaguard sometime for another beer.”
