Our next door neighbors are doing a gut job reno (after work being stopped for not having proper permits…) we haven’t been notified because their permits say they aren’t doing structural work. That being said, the construction is kicking up a huge amount of dust in our partially finished basement, where we have a large amount of our personal belongings in storage and use as an office. What, if any, responsibility does the neighbor have for remediation or protection of our belongings? (more…)

Just a PSA in case this has happened to other readers:
My credit card number was stolen when I was delivering our second child at Sibley. Aside from some routine online purchases we made before Baby arrived, the only time it had been swiped was when we were paying for parking at the hospital. So we’re not 100% sure that the parking machine had a device to skim the number, but it’s the theory that makes the most sense to us so far.”

Our landlord has provided notice that she would like to sell the row house where we’re currently on a month-to-month lease. I’m aware that we have the right of first refusal when it comes to purchasing the property at a fair price. We provided a response this week that we will not be purchasing the property. (more…)

I’m hoping the community may be able to help find two items- my grandfather’s high school class ring and my grandmother’s phi beta kappa key, which were both stolen along with a few other sentimental items like an old golf tee and a dog tag when my home was recently burglarized. I realize it’s a very slim chance, but given the personal value to me, I want to try any/all avenues. (more…)

There’s no nice way to say this, but there’s a slumlord on my block. They own an apartment building that is abandoned and have spent about a year doing illegal construction without permits but never really getting anything done. It doesn’t matter how many times DCRA issues a stop work orders or how many thousands of dollars fines they rack up, because nothing ever changes. (more…)
