“Dear PoPville,

I have been looking through old blog posts looking for advice on how to make some changes around my home– namely wanting to replace a cinder block wall around my back patio with a fence. I keep seeing people mentioning getting a permit expeditor to make the process easier but was wondering if there were specific companies or names people recommend? I am in a non-historical designated block if that matters.

I am also curious about names and recommendations on who to talk to about adding a roof deck to my home but this is a less immediate concern than the patio.”

“Dear PoPville,

We’re building an accessory building on our property, and will end up with about a 20×20 mostly-empty wall on our alley. We’d love to paint a mural on it. And when I say “we’d love to paint” I mean we would love to find someone with talent and artistic inspiration to paint a mural on it for us. (more…)

Update: “I’m not the cute guy from the bike, but I found this puppy. She was hiding under a truck on C street. I had my dog with me, but I put her on the pole next to me. I had to get fully under the truck to get to the puppy. Fortunately a very helpful woman stopped who had an extra leash with her. We were able to leash the dog. I then called the number on the tag, and the owner answered immediately. Apparently she’s been looking for her pup for a long time. They were reunited and the pup is safe at home!”

“Dear PoPville,

Tuesday morning on my very mundane, typically uneventful walk to work on C street NE in Capitol Hill, a puppy on the lose darted in front of me. Coming down the sidewalk shortly after the pup was a man on a bike, who then noticed the lost dog, took off after it, and enlisted the police officer standing by to help him in the chase.

I was late to a meeting, so I had to lay aside my eagerness to take off running and join the growing search and rescue team. But the question loomed all day–who was the mysterious heroic man on the bike?! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My sister snapped this awesome pic tonight (3 may) at the protest at the Supreme Court. I love the shot of the girl on her dad’s shoulder- wondering if we can find the dad (or whoever is holding her) – I’m sure they’d love a copy!” [Ed. Note: If you know the dad/are the dad and would like a copy of the photo please email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.]

More photos from the Supreme Court yesterday: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I rent in a building next door to the Marriott Wardman Park that is slated to be demolished (with a 900 unit apartments constructed in its place). Many renters in the neighborhood are wondering about the timeline of the project (so we can plan accordingly), but we can’t seem to find any specific information (other than the general plans). Does anyone out there have more info or know where we can find it?”

“Dear PoPville,

My partner turns 38 next week and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good place (bar, beer garden, etc) for a daytime hang to post up where one could reserve space but babies/small children are welcome. We’ve got a good sense of parks and are looking into that, but was curious about where we are hanging out and posting up in spring 2022.”

“Dear PoPville,

I think it’s important for folks to know and unsure if you are hearing anything regarding Paxlovid and COVID. Basically tested positive almost two weeks ago and was able to get on Paxlovid, after three days of minor symptoms I was fine. Finished my dosage 5 days ago. Had 4 negative tests in a row. Woke up this morning with sinus infection like symptoms, did another test and immediately went positive. (more…)
