We have a simple straightforward return with normal income and deductions. Our CPA e-filed both our federal and DC tax returns on the same date of March 5, 2024.

The IRS processed our federal return in 11 days and paid the refund two days later.

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about weird electrical usage issues from an apartment building they were renting from. I’ve been having these issues since the beginning of the year and it doesn’t seem like my insanely high bills are associated with the Pepco electrical charge increase – I don’t even have my AC/heater units on.

My apartment is only 650 sqft, Jan was over 300x more than last year, and every subsequent month has been 100-200x more. All that without having the AC/heater running since the cold snaps in January…”

I’m reaching out because I’ve been caught in a pretty frustrating situation with Washington Gas, and I’m curious if anyone has ever dealt with something similar.

I moved into a one-bedroom apartment (~650 sqft) about a year ago. For the first 7 months, my monthly gas bill was in the $30–40 range, which matched what the previous tenant had paid (they lived here for five years and never saw a bill over $40). The tenant below me (who has a larger apartment) also tracks that range similarly. Based on my past apartments and shared housing situations, that seemed totally normal.

“Dear PoPville,

I lost chunky gold cable bracelet (see picture) that belonged to my grandmother on the green line of the metro on the evening of April 2 returning from work. It was approximately 630pm on the Green Line going towards greenbelt. I think it fell off around Hyattsville Crossing as I was exiting the car, but can’t be certain. I think the trains turn around and go back after they reach the end of the line so it could be anywhere on the Green (and potentially yellow) lines. (more…)
