“Dear PoPville,

Oh my god the same thing happened to me on H Street/union station with someone with a similar description (short twist braids, but a bit taller, I’d guess around 5’10”). Sunday around 2:45 pm. Was transferring from the metro to streetcar so exiting the back entrance to union station. He pushed me to the ground so hard I broke my wrist and I’m now in a cast! I called the police and they arrested him. It’s uncanny bc he said something similar to the cops about how I was the one walking aggressively towards him and deserved it. (more…)


“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to send this as a sort of community warning to folks. Yesterday, 8/31, I was assaulted while walking in Mount Pleasant just before 6pm. I was headed East on Irving St between Mt. Pleasant and 16th St and a man going the other direction was very intentionally walking down the middle of the sidewalk. When I tried to get out of his way and pass around him, he sped up and very deliberately went toward me- I tried even more to get out of his way by angling my body as close to the other direction as possible. Before I could process what was happening, he bodyslammed me into the fence so hard I lost my footing and nearly fell over. I am a resident here (flats 130 in NoMa), and posters have gone up everywhere since our building made an announcement (I’ve seen three different ones since last night) – our building is trying to tell us we can no longer have our packages delivered to our actual physical address. they have to be delivered to a “fetch address” which is a warehouse, and then you schedule a delivery time. Is it just me, or is it every time that I get to a station for a transfer (Fort Totten, L’Enfant, Metro Center, Chinatown), the connecting train is already there. But they never wait. It’s like they see another train coming, and they’re just like, NOPE, now we’re in a hurry and have a schedule to keep. (more…)
