“Dear PoPville,
I was walking on Georgia Ave between Lamont and Kenyon this afternoon (Saturday) when I came across a wad of cash on the ground–turned out to be $500!!! If this is your money, glad to be connected (to confirm you are the rightful owner, I’ll ask a couple identifying questions based on the receipt that was also with the cash).
Question for the community: if no one claims the money, I’d welcome ideas for where to donate it–people, groups, causes–where 500 bucks would go a long way. Thank you!

“Dear PoPville,
I just wanted to write in with my experience with DC 911 on Monday 12th at 3:40pm. I called 911 to report a man attempting to break into cars in broad daylight as I sat in my bay window he moved from car to car trying various doors of multiple cars. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Wondering if anyone has any information on what sounds like car alarms on electric scooters. Around 14th and U they are constant, and last for varying amounts of time. Is it a specific brand of scooter? What sets off the alarms? Does anyone know how to shut them off? Any information is appreciated! Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,
A few hours ago I started receiving numerous emails from DC 311 saying that my service requests had been completed — requests that I made in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
Wondering if the system has been hacked?”

An hour later: “And they keep coming”
Another reader writes: “got this last night from DC 311. quick turnaround on my pothole/road condition complaint in Feb. 2018.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
On the night of April 13, 2022, my long-term partner, my teammate in this game we call life, my best friend- Dr. Peter Tripp– killed himself by jumping off the William Howard Taft Bridge. He was 29-years-old. His senseless and untimely death came as a complete shock to all who knew and loved him.
During my search for Peter, that night, I first spotted the police under the Taft Bridge through the bars of the suicide barrier on the Ellington Bridge. A jogger had found him, the police found the jogger, and I found the police. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Where in the DC area can I go to find pawpaws? I’ve found them on hikes in VA and near Harpers Ferry but wondering if readers know where in the city I can find them — somewhere in Rock Creek or the Arboretum, perhaps?”

“Dear PoPville,
I live in Shaw, and there is a dog owner in the neighborhood with two big Great Danes – one has a black and white coat, and the other is all black. I have seen him walking both dogs off leash in residential sidewalks. Sometimes he has one dog on leash, and the other off leash. One of the dogs is not neutered (probably because he is not yet old enough), and sometimes that dog is the one off leash. Other neighbors have also noticed this guy with his two Great Danes, sometimes off leash. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
The DC Bike Ride this past weekend was supposed to go around Hains Point, but it didn’t- making the 20 mile ride 16. Does anyone have any idea why this happened? People paid a lot of money for this ride and cutting it short by 20% with no notice doesn’t sit right with me.”
Maybe there was flooding around Hains Point that closed the roads?

Thanks to Greg for sending: “The new bridge and repaved zoo trail look so close! Anyone know when they are scheduled to finally open?”
The National Park Service says (on Sunday): (more…)
