“NWS reports the current temperature is 24 degrees with a wind chill of 9 degrees. Today’s forecast is snow, mainly before 10am. Areas of blowing snow before 10am. High near 27. Blustery, with a northwest wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Tonight’s forecast, mostly clear, with a low around 11. Wind chill values as low as -4. Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Therefore, The Department of Human Services (DHS) in collaboration with DCHSEMA will keep the city’s Cold Emergency Plan activated for Thursday January 04, 2018.”

“The National Weather Service is forecasting up to one inch of snow beginning at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4. To prepare for the weather event, the DC Snow Team will begin pretreating roads at 8:00 p.m. this evening and deploy more than 200 trucks at 1:00 a.m. to treat all National Highway System, primary, secondary and residential routes within the District. Residents and motorists can register to receive important weather alerts from the District on their devices by signing up for AlertDC at alertdc.dc.gov.

“Temperatures are plummeting–Protect your Pipes

This week, temperatures in the District are expected to fall into the single digits. The cold has already caused frozen or broken pipes inside DC homes. There are steps you can take to help prevent the pipes in your home from freezing or breaking.

Pipes that freeze most frequently are those that are exposed to the outside, such as outdoor hose outlets and water sprinkler lines. The other more likely pipes to freeze are those in unheated interior areas such as kitchen cabinets, attics, garages, basements and crawl spaces.
