So about that snow – from OPM: “1/7: Federal offices in the Washington, DC area status: Early Departure 4 hour staggered early release all employees must depart no later than 1:00 PM.

Employees of Federal offices in the Washington, DC area are authorized for early departure. Employees should depart 4 hours earlier than their normal departure time and may request UNSCHEDULED LEAVE to depart prior to their staggered departure time. All employees MUST DEPART at no later than 1:00 pm at which time FEDERAL OFFICES are CLOSED.”

“Black Ice Possible Early Monday Morning
Patchy fog and cold temperatures will result in an isolated threat for black ice early Monday morning. The best chance for slippery spots will be on bridges and overpasses near bodies of water. Remain alert for slippery spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.”

So about all those plows we saw earlier, from the National Weather Service:
“Mild weather today with showers, but temperatures will fall rapidly tonight, with rain expected to change to snow before ending. Accumulations remain uncertain, as the cold air will be racing in as the precip races away, but this is our current forecast as of early Tuesday.
Rain will mix with snow then change to all snow overnight into the Wednesday morning rush hour. Travel could be impacted” (more…)
