From WMATA:

“Metrobus will begin service on a moderate snow service plan tomorrow, January 7, due to expected snowfall overnight.

In a moderate snow service plan, service on some routes is suspended and detours will be in effect on certain routes to avoid areas prone to hazardous conditions such as hilly terrain and narrow streets. Approximately 119 out of 183 routes will operate. Bus supervisors will assess roads overnight to ensure they are safe for bus operations.

No weather-related impacts to Metrorail are anticipated at this time, with de-icer trains deployed and heaters activated to keep the railway free of snow and ice.”

From the National Weather Service:

“Here’s the latest on winter forecast for tonight. Graphics include warnings/advisories, most likely snowfall, high-end snowfall potential, and start time.” (more…)

Holly writes: “Capitol Hill was opened to sledders. Remember it was closed last year after the riot…and there was a lovely snow last year, but the fence was up and no one could sled. Yesterday, there were Cap Hill. police officers all around, and they were helping the families sledding and watching, and laughing with us. It felt like DC again.”
