From the Mayor’s Office yesterday:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated the reopening of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and joined Events DC in announcing the addition of two locally-owned vendors inside the Convention Center, Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shop Made in DC.

“We have been inviting people to come back and experience DC, and it is always important to us that visitors are able to experience the real DC. It doesn’t get more DC than Ben’s Chili Bowl or a whole shop filled with items made by DC creatives,” said Mayor Bowser. “Spread the word: DC is open and so is our Convention Center.”

From a press release:

“Washington, D.C.-based developer and property manager, EastBanc, today announced the signing of two leases that will bring popular clothing retailers Aerie and Everlane to M Street in Georgetown this fall. The two brands join EastBanc’s growing list of retail tenants in the historic neighborhood as retailers continue to expand brick and mortar locations following the pandemic.

Aerie, one of the fastest growing brands in the apparel industry, will lease 7,700 square feet at its 3235 M Street NW location. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Do you have any idea if and when the Cove shared workspaces will be re-opening in DC? I was a member of their Dupont Circle office but I can’t seem to get any useful information from the company. Its domain name is cove.is which appears to be in…Iceland??”

Ed. Note: Not looking good. I know they had locations in Columbia Heights and Dupont. Any other DC spots?

4200 Wisconsin Ave, NW

I’ve been hearing rumors that Sullivan’s was not doing too well for years. I was told a while ago that they’d be closing sometime this July but I was hoping it was another false alarm and/or that the owners would post a note on their Facebook which I could include, alas there is not (I emailed as well.)

At any rate, there are now major discounts at the store and the shelves are getting bare. If you want to say goodbye, I’d hurry. An employee I spoke to did say they were looking for a new location but they did not find one yet so obviously stay tuned on that front. This is a very sad parting for those with little kids (and artists) or just those who are little kids at heart. Sullivan’s is the type of retail that make our neighborhoods so great. Their leaving here is a sad day indeed. This is not the first time they’ve moved so hoping they find a new space soon. Stay tuned.
