Brings us a bit further east on Upshur. You can see this storefront is next to Duke’s Seafood. I think this may be the bakery that we have heard so much about. Care to speculate? While we are at it, anyone try Duke’s Seafood?

This storefront is looking pretty nice, it is next to the barbershop on Upshur near Georgia Ave. This store may also have the best name ever, besides EatMore Fried Chicken of course. Beveragemania. I hope it truly is and that there is a fantastic selection of wines, beer, etc. Anyone else know anything about this?

Welcome to another new feature here at the PoP. I’m going to feature photos of a number of new stores/businesses that are coming to the neighborhood and we are going to speculate as to what type of business is coming. Volume one features a storefront on Georgia Ave, a few stores down from Temperance Hall. The windows and doors seem to be brand new and I am encouraged by the brown paper covering the windows, which usually signals construction inside, as opposed to just being plain old boarded up. So does anyone know what is coming? Care to speculate?

Welcome to a new feature from PoP. Neat neighborhood finds will feature some less popular, and some lesser known neighborhood stores. Volume One is proud to feature Mom and Pop Antiques located on the corner of Otis and Georgia Ave. This is a fantastic store that looks a lot like a deranged person’s house or at the very least someone with a very serious obsessive compulsive disorder. It is jam packed with every conceivable tshotke. As you can see from the photo, my favorite is the Cutty Sark lamp. They have everything from mirrors, to chairs, to cabinets, to records to you name it. It is fantastic and certainly worth checking out. If you have a neighborhood find that you think should be featured please email me at [email protected].

Does anyone go here? I often walk by it but I imagine it is way more expensive than Home Depot.

I walked by some construction just a few stores down from Domku and I have to say it looks really nice inside. You would never guess it looks that nice on the inside from just walking by. Does anyone know what it is going to be? Another restaurant perhaps?

Furniture store. Not very creative if you ask me. Storehouse furniture went out of business on 14th Street and another furniture store opens in its place. Do you think that is a good idea or would you have preferred to see something else open up?

This is De Vinos in Adams Morgan. It’s owner is opening up a store called D’Vines in Columbia Heights soon. So, I imagine it is going to look something like this. Nice.

Thanks to Gillian for alerting me to the snazzy new sign at the bodega on 5th and Shepherd. There is also a new sign for an atm machine. Good to know. Plus now you can get coffee there if you need your fix in a hurry.

Remember Mario’s pizza? It was without a doubt the worst pizza I’ve ever had in my life. It sits right across the street from Temperance Hall. Well, it thankfully closed and it looks like it has reopened as a computer store. I have to admit, though, the new signage does not exactly inspire one to purchase a new computer. This looks worse than a pawn shop. Damn it, Georgia Ave, needs some proper development.
On a happier note I do have to report that I had a drink at Temperance last night and it consistently delivers. The bartender, Scott, had phenomenal taste in music and there is such a good vibe going on. Next to Domku, Temperance Hall is by far the best addition Petworth has seen in my four years here.
Well, I’m getting hungry so I think I’ll go grab a slice of horrible pizza and perhaps pick up a 10 year old Dell computer…
