Washington Business Journal’s Michael Neibauer shares news of a permit for a FroZenYo set to come to the 2300 block of Georgia Ave. This is the block with a Potbelly’s at the corner. I stopped by over the weekend and work had already begun on the Fuel Pizza also coming to the block.

Thanks to a reader for sending the shot above of the Gant signage at their new store coming to the former Saloun space at 3239 M Street, NW. I peeked in over the weekend and they looked very close to finishing:

5333 Wisconsin Ave, NW
Back in June we learned DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) was coming to Friendship Heights in the former Borders bookstore space. They’re now open at 5333 Wisconsin Ave, NW. The Columbia Heights DSW opened at 14th and Irving back in early October.

At the end of July I shared the sad news that the Ginza Japanese store was going out of business at 1721 Connecticut Ave, NW. Good news – they’ve found a new space just a few storefronts away on Connecticut Ave! Ginza will be reopening soon in the former Aaron Gallery space at 1717 Connecticut Ave, NW.

Petco’s Unleashed opens Monday at 9am at 1st and M Street, NE:

Yesterday I shared some news that Barnes and Noble was closing at the end of the year in Union Station. A lot can change in a day! According to the Post’s Jonathan O’Connell:
“Twenty-four hours after saying Barnes & Noble planned to close its store in Union Station at the end of the year, a company spokeswoman said Thursday that the company has received and accepted a one-year extension from its landlord and will keep the store open at least through 2013.”
50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE
Thanks to Rebecca for sending word that Barnes and Noble is closing in Union Station. A call to the store confirms that their last day is Dec. 31st. Barnes and Noble still has a store near Metro Center at 12th and E St, NW.
The former Barnes and Noble in Georgetown recently opened as a Nike Store. And earlier this week we learned the former Borders at 18th and L St, NW is becoming a Nordstrom Rack.
It’ll be interesting to see who takes over this large retail space in Union Station.
1800 L Street, NW
Back in June we first heard the possibility that a Nordstrom Rack could be coming to the former Borders space at the corner of 18th and L St, NW. WBJ’s Michael Neibauer shares the INSN word that Nordstrom Rack is indeed coming:
“1800 L St. NW: Nordstrom Rack is on its way. An alteration permit was issued for renovations to the former Border’s location at 18th and L streets. The store will sell men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories.”
