A zoning document has been filed for a Petco pet supplies store to come to DCUSA in Columbia Heights. I’m told if all goes well it will be located near the recently opened DSW. Think a Petco will do well here?

Vintage No. 5 is located on the 2nd floor above above Desporados at 1342 U Street, NW. Vintage No. 5 used to be located in Adams Morgan at 2704 1/2 Ontario Rd, NW. Their website says:
We work hard to find great clothing, some vintage as well as carefully selected new items. It is the perfect place for someone that would like to put together a great outfit for under $50. Trendy accessories are important. Purses, scarfs, belts, hats, and great vintage jewelry – very pretty pieces from the 40’s through the 70’s, as well as new accessories. Come browse our collectibles, jewelry, art and books.
We also have some furniture, small tables, chairs, stools, stands to dress up a room. Come take a look!

Looks like the Lee Jewelry space at 1776 Columbia Road, NW is set to become a new liquor store called Le Liquor according to a recent liquor license application. Though, I admit it is possible that there may have been a typo and it will be called Lee Liquor. I’m still holding out hope for Le Liquor. If not I call dibs on the name…

Washington Business Journal’s Michael Neibauer shares news of a permit for a FroZenYo set to come to the 2300 block of Georgia Ave. This is the block with a Potbelly’s at the corner. I stopped by over the weekend and work had already begun on the Fuel Pizza also coming to the block.

Thanks to a reader for sending the shot above of the Gant signage at their new store coming to the former Saloun space at 3239 M Street, NW. I peeked in over the weekend and they looked very close to finishing:

When I peeked in you could still see the Saloun vestiges of getting your name on bricks if you donate money to building new schools:

Back in June we learned DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) was coming to Friendship Heights in the former Borders bookstore space. They’re now open at 5333 Wisconsin Ave, NW. The Columbia Heights DSW opened at 14th and Irving back in early October.

From a press release:
Located conveniently nearby Georgetown University, this newest location offers a wide variety of new, used, and vintage fashion from high-end designer pieces to everyday apparel. Formerly the retro clothing store, Annie Creamcheese, the new 2,047 square foot basement location celebrates the company’s history, highlighting oversized prints of old black and white newspaper ad images against a mid-century color palette. The company focuses on quality, trending merchandise, and nearly all of their merchandise is unique to their inventory, lending to a fun-filled shopping experience that is often more akin to a treasure hunt.
Buffalo Exchange opened their first location in Logan Circle at 1318 14th St, NW back in June.

1721 Connecticut Ave, NW
At the end of July I shared the sad news that the Ginza Japanese store was going out of business at 1721 Connecticut Ave, NW. Good news – they’ve found a new space just a few storefronts away on Connecticut Ave! Ginza will be reopening soon in the former Aaron Gallery space at 1717 Connecticut Ave, NW.
Ed. Note: Aaron Gallery moved in 2010 to 2101 L St, NW.
