I was walking on P Street NW between 15th and 14th and noticed that in the last few days the window coverings have been taken off the old Logan Hardware and a new office of some sorts has opened and a full renovation has taken place. However, there is NO sign. Do you know what has taken over the space? And why it isn’t some type of retail or something?”

1939 12th Street, NW just south of U Street
Over the summer we learned that a new high end liquor store was coming to 12th and U St, NW in the space next door to Menchie’s frozen yogurt. The owners tells me there was a slight delay with permits but they are now on track for a December 1st opening.

Back in March we noted that Capitol Hill Sporting was going out of business on Barracks Row. Back in 2010 there were plans to convert this space into a bar and grill. Updates when we learn who leases the space.

Last month we learned that H Street was getting it’s first E-Cigarette store and Vape Lounge – Dumbcloud Vapor on the 400 block of H Street, NE. The 600 block is getting one too. This is the former home to (ironically?) Aspire Health Care. District Vape’s twitter page says:
“Soon to be open. D.C.’s premier full service vape shop. We carry a complete line of E-juices, starter kits, tank upgrades, RDA’s RBA’s clones & authentic mods”
DC’s first vape lounge, DC Vape Joint opened in Adams Morgan underneath the Pharmacy Bar in March.
405 H Street, NE
1534 14th Street, NW
Last month we learned Shinola Detroit (bikes, watches etc.) would be opening a permanent location at 14th and R Street, NW in one of the retail spaces at the former Central Union Mission (Central Union Mission moved to a newly renovated space, the former Gales school near Union Station.) At that time we also heard some scuttlebutt that Shinola would open a pop up in the former Escrow space across the street until their permanent space is ready. That scuttlebutt turned out to be true and they’re now open – Sun.-Fri. 11am-6pm and Sat. 11am-7pm.
