“Passed by Georgetown store and windows covered over. Website listed hours each day as CLOSED.”

A call to the store only has an audio recording saying that the store is “temporarily closed” with no reason given. Updates when more info is known.

Update: As commenters have noted the store is closed due to some damage from the recent Steve Madden fire. I’m told they are taking this opportunity to renovate the store.

A reader reports:

“Riccardi Clothier (1300 Connecticut) appears to be going out of business. It looks like a nice store, so I’m sad for them. But I will not miss the TERRIFYING moving advertising mannequin they have out front. Seriously, this thing scares the heck out of me, and I see it at least twice a day. I’ve never understood it, since it doesn’t seem in line with the pleasant professional style of the store.”

Ed. Note: Riccardi Clothier moved from Georgetown to southern Dupont back in 2012.

From a press release:

“It’s official- Glover Park Hardware has a new home in the neighborhood! After a two month search, local hardware store Glover Park Hardware is pleased to announce they’ve found a new storefront at 2233 Wisconsin Ave NW.

The new Glover Park Hardware boasts 7,500 sq. ft. of retail space and is located just a few doors away from their previous location at 2251 Wisconsin Ave NW. Customers can expect to see movement in the store as soon as March, with an anticipated re-opening date of April 2015. Store owners Gina Schaefer and Marc Friedman are thrilled to stay in the neighborhood where it first opened in 2005. “We love our Glover Park Community and we were committed to reopening in this neighborhood,” says Schaefer.”

“a candy store (I think the same one as in Chinatown Ed. Note: similar looking but not the same folks) appears to be coming to Union Station, in the same space where the Papyrus used to be. (Papyrus recently moved to a different space in another part of Union Station.)”

Sugar Factory’s facebook page says:

“Sugar Factory has made confections part of popular culture and has turned sweets into the latest designer accessory. Best known for its signature Couture Pops, iconic superstars including Britney Spears, Drake, Nicole Scherzinger, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, Carmen Electra and Rupert Grint are just a few of the celebrities who have either endorsed or have been spotted with the sparkly lollipops. The celebrity affiliations have made Couture Pops an international phenomenon with widespread media attention from The Today Show, Daily Mail, AOL, Good Morning America, People, Extra and more.

Colorful candy bins line the walls and walkways of the retail stores, where stylish retail for all ages hang from walls and racks. Signature candies such as fudge-covered pretzel sticks, milk chocolate-covered Oreos and Rice Krispies Treats® coated with frosting appeal to the most discerning sweet tooth. Freshly made gelato available in an array of flavors cool off and delight guests. Framed photographs of celebrities holding various Couture Pops hang high from the walls, making Sugar Factory more than just a retail store; it’s also a popular spot for sightseeing.”

Bicycle Space in on a tear! Now they’re taking over the sweet newly renovated former Slaviya/Cities spot on 18th Street.

From Bicycle Space:

“BicycleSPACE announces the spring opening of an unimaginably large shop in Adams Morgan, an expansion progressing in tandem with the company’s upcoming shops in Mt. Vernon Triangle and Ivy City.

The Adams Morgan shop is located at 2424 18th St NW in a 6,400-square-foot storefront. At this size, the shop is the literal definition of BicycleSPACE, now enlarged to create a more opportune environment for bicyclists.

With this much physical space, BicycleSPACE will exponentially increase its ability to serve the greater Washington, D.C. market. It will also strengthen the D.C. economy by creating 40 new jobs, bringing its total workforce to 70+ employees.

BicycleSPACE anticipates an April move into the Adams Morgan property. In May, the company expects to open its 4,100-square-foot shop at 440 K St NW. BicycleSPACE anticipates a June opening at 1512 Okie St NE in the Hecht Warehouse District of Ivy City

BicycleSPACE is poised to become the largest bicycle retailer in D.C.
