From an email:

“Every Allbirds store has its own color pop, for the D.C. store the color pop is white, inspired by the architectural monuments of the city.

Each Allbirds store has its own unique three lace colors, that are free with a purchase of a Runner, that reference local themes. In the D.C. store the colors are: Mumbo Sauce Orange, Logan Circle Green, and Georgetown Grey. (more…)

Ed. Note: Thank God.

From the very fine folks at Calvert Woodley:

“Calvert Woodley is changing hands. But, not to worry; the venerable destination for wine and cheese is staying in the family. Ed Sands, owner and operator since 1966, is passing the torch to his son, Michael Sands, who has worked in the business since 1998.

In one iteration or another, Calvert Woodley’s storied history began in 1946. One of the keys to the store’s success is the longevity of the staff, several of whom have been with the store for over 25 years, with a few at 40 years and still going! (more…)

Yesterday Sonia tweeted “Torchy’s Tacos Can you please put a Torchy’s at 1800 M St NW in D.C.? I promise you, business would be good!”

I had never heard of Torchy’s but based on the replies people really really love them. So it’s time to play (and please do remember remember, playing is not mandatory if this ain’t your thing) what chain would you love to see in D.C.? You can see what folks pined for in 2015 here and in 2009 here. So who/what are you pining for today?

Update from The Outrage:

“This is our third incident of vandalism in the last 3 months. We have adequate security measures in place and have promising leads on the suspects as we’re catching them on camera.

For those that don’t know us, The Outrage is a hub for activism — 100% of our retail sales are donated to progressive partner organizations or subsidize our community space. We’ve been an official partner for every major social movement since 2016 (think Women’s March, March For Our Lives, etc). We pride ourselves on holding space for progressive issues that uplift the most marginalized communities. For us, these types of attacks only highlight the need to keep doing the work. You can break our windows every day, but we’ll keep opening our doors.

We’re still open and need our community’s support now more than ever. If you want unapologetically progressive spaces like The Outrage to exist in the world, please stop by or sign up to be a member today. You can find membership applications here.

In community,
Michelle”

The cashier tells me Bed, Bath & Beyond’s last day will be June 1st. For the curious, I came away with a decent kitchen knife for 5 bucks. I got my eye on a vacuum cleaner but I’m gambling on a deeper discount – they were only at 30% last weekend. The world market had some Icelandic row but I wasn’t ready to take that 2 buck gamble… (more…)
