Thanks to all who passed on the sad news:

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the closing of both Ian McCabe Studio and Ian McCabe Studio at Union Market. With the recent shutdown due to Covid-19 and no real way to go back to a normal capacity any time soon, we like many other businesses have had to close our doors. I want to thank you for your loyalty and for supporting us over the last years. (more…)

In not too long it’s gonna be my turn to watch my kids so I want to post a bunch of photos that I’ve received last night/this morning, apologies if it’s a bit overwhelming but I want to get them posted for posterity. And again, truly, thanks to all who’ve been messaging us. Your photos and notes have been invaluable in keeping us all connected during these chaotic hours. Keep ’em coming to [email protected] and @PoPville on social media.

Many, many more photos: (more…)

15th and P Street, NW by Dan at 5:45am

A lot to unpack. I’m just getting back to the computer going through everyone’s messages.

Regarding the photo above, Dan reports:

Driver evading police loses control and drives into TD bank at 15th and P. Took off on foot. MPD pulled about 30 liquor bottles out of the trunk. The occupants didnt get far and were detained outside of Milkbar. A fair amount of vandalism in the immediate area, but nothing that cant be fixed or is more important than healing the wounds that caused this unrest.”

Standby. Many, many updates coming.

I was being cheeky last night but Lane’s response got me thinking me should just codify the rules here:

“Self checkout rules:

(A) less than 25 items, and this is very generous;
(B) put your bags out first. You bag as you go;
(C) no more than 5 produce items (meaning things you have to look up);
(D) know how to bag — so heavy first, layer, etc.”

What other rules should be added.

Last night Miriam asked: “Um, is anyone else in DC unable to order from IKEA because when you enter your billing address, it says that the District of Columbia is an “invalid input”? I just want some outdoor chairs…”

Many people responded with similar frustrations. I think Nikki B. summed it up best: “#TaxationWithoutHomeDecoration”

18th Street, NW looking towards Columbia Road

From a press release:

“Earlier this month, community leaders announced the creation of the Adams Morgan Commercial Development Coalition (AMCDC), an organization focused on the reimagination and the livability of the Adams Morgan commercial core as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. The AMCDC – consisting of neighborhood residents, commercial and mixed-use property owners and Adams Morgan business owners and employees – urges District of Columbia leaders to take bold action by empowering the Adams Morgan community to reinvent 18th Street. The AMCDC envisions a roadway used for additional outdoor spaces for pedestrian activity, neighborhood retailers and food and beverage establishments. (more…)
