Masks are important but can we also teach people how to properly use the self checkout lanes at the grocery store.
— PoPville (@PoPville) May 22, 2020
I was being cheeky last night but Lane’s response got me thinking me should just codify the rules here:
“Self checkout rules:
(A) less than 25 items, and this is very generous;
(B) put your bags out first. You bag as you go;
(C) no more than 5 produce items (meaning things you have to look up);
(D) know how to bag — so heavy first, layer, etc.”
What other rules should be added.

Last night Miriam asked: “Um, is anyone else in DC unable to order from IKEA because when you enter your billing address, it says that the District of Columbia is an “invalid input”? I just want some outdoor chairs…”
Many people responded with similar frustrations. I think Nikki B. summed it up best: “#TaxationWithoutHomeDecoration”

18th Street, NW looking towards Columbia Road
From a press release:
“Earlier this month, community leaders announced the creation of the Adams Morgan Commercial Development Coalition (AMCDC), an organization focused on the reimagination and the livability of the Adams Morgan commercial core as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. The AMCDC – consisting of neighborhood residents, commercial and mixed-use property owners and Adams Morgan business owners and employees – urges District of Columbia leaders to take bold action by empowering the Adams Morgan community to reinvent 18th Street. The AMCDC envisions a roadway used for additional outdoor spaces for pedestrian activity, neighborhood retailers and food and beverage establishments. (more…)

Oh no!!! Thanks to all who messaged us the Washington Business Journal article by Alex Koma:
“It’s official: Kramerbooks owner Steve Salis says he’s ready to move the hybrid bookshop-cafe out of its Dupont Circle home.
He doesn’t have a new location to announce yet, but this would mark the end of Kramer’s 44-year run in the neighborhood.”

With every 5-pint package of ice cream purchased, Ice Cream Jubilee will make a donation to nonprofits dedicated to combating the rise in Anti-Asian hate that has spiked since the Coronavirus crisis. Oh my goodness a magnificent, and desperately needed, update about Saint Vincent coming to the old union drinkery/sundevich space at 3212-3216 Georgia Ave NW in the Park View. Co-owner Peyton Sherwood (along with partner Frederick Uku) tells me that they’ll be opening up a retail shop there in the next few weeks (before a proper opening is suitable.) We can expect the space to feature a wine list that highlights small producers from all over the world plus cheese and charcuterie. People will be able to pick out their favorites online a la carte or buy baskets they put together. You can follow their progress on their Instagram page here. And of course we’ll update when the retail shop is live and of course when it’s safe to do so, when the proper opening occurs.
Check out a taste from that sweet window at night too: (more…)
