From a press release:

“Urbana will reopen on Tuesday, September 2, debuting a new look and enhanced bar program after a six-week, $600,000 refresh led by DC-based Grizform Design Architects. At the newly re-opened Dupont Circle gathering place, guests can expect a revamped bar program to reflect the increased bar and lounge space, more Italian influences on the menu, and a modern look that stays true to Urbana’s sleek aesthetic.

New Bar Menu, Enhanced Happy Hour and Saturday Apertivo Hour

Now boasting a double-sided bar, drink rails and additional high-top lounge seating in the former private dining space, Urbana is debuting a bar menu to build on its reputation as a neighborhood destination, complete with an appetizing happy hour from 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Executive Chef Ethan McKee draws inspiration from the sea for bar bites that include thoughtfully sourced oysters, composed crudo plates and small fish dishes, which are complemented by cozy options such as porcini arancini and fritti misti, and a wide selection of house-made charcuterie and cheeses. Happy hour features great values like $5 house red, white and sparkling wines; $5 Peroni and Yuengling; $7 Aperol Spritzes and $10 negronis on tap, along with $1 oysters; $5 bar bites, and $8 margherita pizzas. The good times continue on Saturdays from 4-7 p.m. during a constantly evolving Apertivo Hour, which will showcase drink specials featuring Italian-style amari, cordials and signature kegged cocktails.

828 Upshur Street, NW

After destroying Petworth Citizen back in November, The Post’s Tom Sietsema is much happier with chef Makoto Hamamura other restaurant Crane & Turtle located across the street. He writes:

“The food at Crane & Turtle can sometimes make you swoon and other times make you scratch your head. One thing you will never be is bored.”

Which is a phenomenal upgrade from the Petworth Citizen review:

“Reaction, after three visits: The check can’t come soon enough.”

Bangkok Golden

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know if Thaitanic II in Columbia Heights is closed for good, or is just doing renovations?”

Closed for good (thought the original is still open in Logan.) Back in July we learned that the popular Laotian restaurant from Virginia Bangkok Golden would be opening up a DC location in this space. You can see their menus here.

From Chef Seng:

“Thip Khao Location Reveal!

Thank you so much for being patient with us, while we got things sorted out and ready, before revealing the new restaurant location. As you already know, the neighborhood is Columbia Heights. We felt it was a perfect area to spread our Lao Food Movement!

So we officially are telling you, dear customers, that the location is:

3462 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20010”

Lawrence’s II Petworth Carryout, 3937 Georgia Ave, NW

A reader requested this a few weeks ago and I totally blanked on them – so better late than never! When you don’t feel like cooking or eating out – where’s your go to take out spot? What do you order? Around how much does it cost? If you can give a rough location even better!

Bonchon Chicken

Huge news from Washingtonian yesterday afternoon:

“Get ready, DC: Bonchon is headed your way. The Korean fried-chicken chain with a cult-like following will open its first District location in Navy Yard, with a projected opening in spring 2015.”

Check out Bonchon’s menu here.

Navy Yard ANC Rep David Garber tweets that he believes it’ll be located at Half and L Street, SE.

And in the meantime you can hit Kochix for your fix at 4th and Florida Ave, NW.

Eater DC reports:

Mercadito “will be located at the new Marriott Marquis hotel downtown. The restaurant does not have an opening date yet, but hopes to open this winter.”

You can see Mercadito’s Chicago menus here. Anyone happen to try their Chicago location? Updates when they get closer to opening.

Incidentally, any fans of the other bars and restaurants here like the sports or bourbon bar?
