Some very specific scuttlebutt about The Manhattan development. In addition to the WeWork space a reader says:

“A bit of scuttlebutt: the part of the building on the other side of the alley with the brick facade is going to house a few new restaurants. One is a German style pub that is being opened by Richard Sandoval Restaurants (El Centro, Masa 14). Another is a pizzeria and a third is a cafe (most likely Philz Coffee of San Francisco).”

Thanks to all who sent emails about The Shaw Bijou coming to Shaw. The Washington Post reports:

“Next up: 25-year-old Kwame Onwuachi, whose résumé includes stints at such cachet-carrying eateries as New York’s Eleven Madison Park and Per Se. Onwuachi expects to open the Shaw Bijou later this year.”

Updates when they get closer to opening.

By the by – here’s what this former horse’s ass award property looked like in 2010:

Thanks to DC Beer for the heads up. Next door neighbor Bluejacket will be turning the space into a “bottle shop and tasting room in the coming weeks” per the tweet above. In other Blue Jacket news – @roberto20 tweets us:

“Bernie Sanders held his third official fundraising event at Bluejacket yesterday afternoon.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on:

Chef Deth & Chef Seng are combining forces to launch Khao Poon, DC’s first Lao Noodle House. They’re going to kick off the effort with some pop-up events at different locations as they lead up to securing the new restaurant’s permanent location. Khao Poon will offer a unique culinary experience featuring noodle dishes inspired by traditional Lao cuisine as well as that of the surrounding countries.

Khao Poon, in Lao, means “rice vermicelli noodles.” Our restaurant will offer a variety of delicious noodle dishes combining spices, seasonings and sauces of the region with fresh, local and sustainable ingredients sourced from as close to Washington, D.C. as possible. (more…)

Slash Run kinda reminds me of the Red Derby when they first opened. Meaning – it is freaking awesome. Unpretentious. Trying but not trying too hard. Good people. Delicious burgers. Great beer list. A freaking huge score for this end of Petworth. I was able to attend an early preview tasting last night and even though I had sky high expectations from the folks that brought us Bar Charley, El Chucho etc. – they exceeded my expectations by far. And my wife says the portabello burger was delicious too. Also they have a kids menu. And the inside – is just right for a casual burger spot:
