We’re also debuting a brand-new Pilsner, Love Cats, in honor of the home opener. It is classic, crisp, clean and–in the northern German tradition–hop-forward, bone-dry, brisk and bitter. It is the perfect baseball beer, and eminently drinkable at 5% abv.

Love Cats is brewed exclusively with Pilsner Malt and Yakima Valley-grown Loral hops. Loral is a newer American varietal that shows classic, German-grown noble hop flavors (floral, earthy, spicy) accompanied by notes of dark fruit. Post-fermentation, this Pilsner is matured in tank for 4 weeks prior to service.

Then, on Friday 4/6/18, we will release cans of Love Cats for our weekly can release.”

From an email:

“We plan to close the doors to Glen’s Shaw with a big farewell party from 5pm to 9pm on Monday, April 9. We’ll be giving away gift cards, Growler Club memberships, CSAs, shirts and other Glen’s goodies, and we’ll be offering $2 drafts to kill off our kegs. We want to take one last opportunity to thank the Shaw community for welcoming us, supporting us, and being our tireless champions. We also want to make sure everyone feels welcome at Glen’s Dupont (2001 S Street, NW), so much of our Dupont crew will be there to introduce themselves and start new friendships.”

I’ve got the chills. Thanks to Mary for sending! Last month we learned:

“Nearly five years after opening the award-winning South American steakhouse, chef Victor Albisu is replacing Del Campo with two Mexican concepts. Taco Bamba, his wildly popular counter-service taqueria, will have its first permanent D.C. home in the front bar and dining room, while the back dining room and patio will welcome Poca Madre. Albisu’s first upscale Mexican concept will offer a refined menu for dinner only.

When Taco Bamba opens as a permanent concept the week of April 2, it will do so with a new-to-Chinatown look.

Renovations to the back dining room and enclosed patio are expected to finish in April for a spring opening of Poca Madre, which is Mexican slang for “really cool.”

Albisu is actively searching for a new location to open Del Campo in the District.”

After some early estimates Declaration is nearly here:

From a press release:

“Declaration Nats Park, the newest restaurant to hit the Capitol Riverfront restaurant scene, has confirmed today that their Grand Opening will be Thursday, April 5th at 11am, just in time for the Nationals home opener. Declaration Nats Park is the fourth restaurant to join the PRG Hospitality family and the second installment of the neighborhood pizza spot in Shaw of the same name. Located at 1237 First St SE, the restaurant will celebrate its grand opening with a free meatball slider with the purchase of a Samuel Adams beer and chances to win gift certificates, Nat’s gear and tickets, and two lucky winners will receive a free pizza every time they dine in during a home game!

The new restaurant is owned and operated by longtime DC restauranteur Alan Popovsky and Corporate Executive Chef and Food Network Chopped Champion Demetrio Zavala of PRG Hospitality who currently own Teddy & the Bully Bar in Dupont Circle, LINCOLN Restaurant in Thomas Circle, and Declaration in Shaw. Having been in the industry for over ten years and started multiple successful DC restaurants Mr. Popovsky has a unique perspective of what works and what doesn’t. He considers the key ingredient to success to be customer satisfaction and expectations and that’s exactly what he plans to accomplish with Declaration Nats Park.

“The opportunity to have our newest restaurant just a baseball throw away from Nats Stadium felt like we had just won the World Series,” says owner Popovsky. All puns intended.

The new restaurant is larger than its original counterpart with seating for 100 featuring an Ohio barn wood exterior, an outdoor walk-up bar, and interior finishing’s, like a steel panel wall with an American flag mural painted across it, by Roxanne Christie of Accents Arts & Design and formerly of Swatchroom.
