“Dear PoPville,

The TGI Friday’s in Foggy Bottom, the only one in DC, is permanently closed now. Service was awful, food was questionable, drinks weren’t good – hmmmm, wonder why they closed?”

RIP endless potato skins in D.C. Although, maybe the Columbia Heights location will rise from the ashes. Folks would be so psyched. STAY TUNED.

From an email:

“Momofuku CCDC is celebrating their third anniversary this month with a fried chicken and dumpling party. This has been a landmark year for the restaurant, welcoming a new chef who has completely transformed the menu, and there’s no better way to celebrate than over food. Executive Chef Tae Strain has invited Danny Lee and Scott Drewno of ChiKo, Tim Ma of Kyirisan, and Spike Gjerde of A Rake’s Progress to prepare their take on dumplings and fried chicken. Beer and drinks will be served with a portion of sales being donated to DC Central Kitchen.

TL writes: “Sad to see them go, but if they expanded their concept into a full Italian deli closer to the Petworth Metro or on upper 14th Street, they’d crush it.”

Oh my God. The sable, the salmon – DO NOT sleep on the Salmon BLT – perhaps the best seafood sandwich in all Washington D.C. Neopol Savory Smokery is quite possibly the most under-hyped but best seafood in town. They currently have an outpost in Union Market and when I stopped by the new spot on Saturday they looked about ready to open in Georgetown on Grace Street. Grace Street, by the by, has quietly become a phenomenal little street not to be missed, bookmarked by Chaia Tacos and Dog Tag Bakery on one end and Sundevich and Grace Street Coffee on the other with more good stuff in between. Neopol will fit in on the block quite nicely. (more…)

A new liquor license placard has been posted at the former Scion space in Dupont:

“New Restaurant that will serve Mediterranean and international cuisine. Sidewalk Cafe with 40 seats. Total Occupancy Load is 162 with seating for 100.”

Scion closed after 10 years back in August.

Updates when we learn more about the “Mediterranean and international cuisine” coming. Stay tuned.
