God damn it.

Thanks, I think, to a reader for sending from “Georgetown. By the time I got my phone out, this little guy had moved off the food. Our area restaurants need to do better. The door to this case was left wide open, so he/she was able to just curry right in.”

From a press release:

“Poutinerie by Air Canada offers global twists on the iconic Canadian dish – poutine. Proceeds from the Pop-Up will be donated to a local Washington charity.

“The #AirCanadaFliesThere initiative is designed to connect Washington DC travelers and their spirit of adventure to iconic destinations in Canada, Asia and Europe,” said Lisa Pierce, Air Canada Senior Director of US Sales. “As we showcase Air Canada’s flight offerings from the US Capital region, we hope to inspire everyone to explore these remarkable destinations, and beyond. We are especially pleased to serve all three Washington DC Metro airports. Most recently, we added direct flights to our hub in Montreal from Dulles and BWI airports. We are truly honored to be a growing part of the Washington DC community, and proud to support the work of Martha’s Table by donating all of the proceeds of the poutinerie to the organization.

In addition to classic poutine (French fries, cheese curds, gravy), the Air Canada pop-up Poutinerie will showcase ten unique poutine dishes inspired by destinations across Air Canada’s growing global network. (more…)

Thanks to John for sending: “on my way home last night I noticed that, in between Dacha and the forthcoming Jake’s Tavern (which now has signage up), there’s a permit application notice for a Laotian restaurant & a sign on the door that says “Hanumanh coming soon”. The windows and doors are papered over at the moment, but a couple weeks ago I was able to peek through the window and saw a finished bar with chairs and a really cool mural on the opposite wall.”

Sweet! Back in June 2016 we first posted some scuttlebutt that a new spot from owner/chef of Thip Khao was coming here. Boom!

A liquor license application also says:

“New Restaurant serving Laotian Cuisine. Sidewalk Café with 35 seats. Total Occupancy Load is 75 with seating for 40.”

STAY TUNED.

The OG PP space soon to be ChiKo.

From an email:

“Pizzeria Paradiso’s fifth, and largest location will open in Spring Valley at 4850 Massachusetts Ave, NW in late November.  Guests can expect the same great menu of Neapolitan pizzas, salads and appetizers made with high quality ingredients from chef/owner Ruth Gresser that’s available at all the other locations, in addition to 14 draft lines with mostly DC and local beers selected by beverage director Drew McCormick. On October 18th I posted some scuttlebutt about a likely Chick Fil A location here. There were MANY opinions.

Thanks to all who messaged the confirmation from Washington Business Journal:

“The fast-food poultry purveyor has signed a 15-year lease — with 14 years of optional extensions — with an affiliate of Douglas Development Corp. for 1214 18th St. NW, a couple blocks south of Dupont Circle.”

Ed. Note: One day I will find out what WBJ has on the Jemal family/Douglas Development Corp. Kidding, kidding. Kinda.

Standby for an opening date and the upcoming Chicken Wars with Nando’s down the block.

Film by Casey Kaufman and Toki Underground.

“After several months of working on this short film we’re delighted to be able to share it with you. The idea behind this film is to show the story behind our broth, from bone to mouth, and the hands that make it. We hope you enjoy it, that it stirs up your appetite and that you come in and taste it for yourself.

Love,

The Toki Team”

Thanks to Catherine and Bryan for sending. In April the Washington Business Journal reported:

“Nicholas Stefanelli, owner and chef of Masseria, will open a 12,000-square-foot, full-service Greek restaurant at Midtown Center, the new home of Fannie Mae.”

Chef and owner of the Michelin starred Masseria in Union Market, Stefanelli also just opened Officina on the Wharf. Stay tuned for an opening date for the new Greek place.

Thanks to Eric for the heads up: “FYI fresh baguette on Wisconsin will open on Thursday.”

Fresh Baguette’s Website says:

“Fresh Baguette is THE authentic French bakery in Bethesda

Our bakery is named after its signature product, the traditional baguette. Our master baker leaves nothing to chance and uses the very best French techniques: a cold dough process that develops unique flavors, homemade “levain” (leaven), and an oven imported from France with a stone based sole for outstanding baking. The result is a baguette that is light, airy, with just the right crunch and doesn’t require a trip to France. And we bake baguettes throughout the day, so you can always get a fresh one.

In addition to our traditional baguette, we offer a wide variety of breads all prepared and baked with the same care: (more…)
