Iacovelli cafe & liquor will close at the end of May

Ed. Note: From Reliable Tavern (3655 Georgia Ave, NW) also located on the block: “We have a lease through at least 2026 and at this point we are planning to continue operating for the foreseeable future. COVID was really challenging, but we’ve been fortunate to receive some additional funding from the city to help us with back rent, and really appreciate the continued support from the community…. business is picking up.”

Will update when/if I learn about any changes coming to the other businesses on the block.

Our old landlord ignored our request to renew our lease (we have been there 5.5 years), then sold the building! Coffy Cafe Closing BUT KooKoo “A Taste of Persia” Coming to Columbia Heights

Thanks to all who wrote after we learned about Coffy Cafe’s coming closure in Columbia Heights (say that ten times fast.)

“Last time I was there the owner told me they were planning on re-opening as a Persian restaurant and lounge but it was taking awhile for them to get their permit.”

Mi Vida will open on 14th Street this Summer AND in Penn Quarter Fall of 2022

Last week we noted the new signage at the former Matchbox space – a few more details from Mi Vida:

“MI VIDA 14th street: Alongside Culinary Director, Roberto Santibañez, KNEAD Hospitality + Design will open a new MI VIDA at the historic former Matchbox location on 14th street in summer 2022. This 3 level, 10,000 square foot space will feature 300 seats, two bars, a conditioned year round patio, and tons of private and semi private event spaces. The 14th street location will cater towards the late night crowd with subtle differences like after hours small plates. The location is starting to take shape and the team is excited to welcome guests soon!

Thanks to EJ for the update: “Feta Cafe & Bakery has opened. I stopped in for some coffee and they have a pretty large menu of breakfast sandwiches and lunch items. On the menu are Jerusalem bagels, gyros, sandwiches, croissants… a pretty mixed bag leaning Mediterranean.”

More Bad Breakfast News for Dupont – Philz Coffee reportedly closing April 30th

Thanks to Ishaba and others who send word that the Philz in Dupont is closing on Apr 30th. One reader wrote:

“Philz in Dupont says they’re closing at the end of the month. DM’d them on Instagram and they said it was “purely a financial decision.” Wonder what the deal is since it’s always pretty packed and popular.”

Philz opened here to much excitement back in 2018. Prior to them this was the home to a Cosi that closed back in 2014. Updates when we learn more.
