We’ve judged Locolat Cafe, located at 18th and Florida Ave, in the past.

I thought it was interesting that they’ve applied for an alcohol license. The application says that they’ll have:

“Sandwiches, savory waffles, quiches, desserts, chocolates and brunch.”

Sounds like you’ll soon be able to get some mimosas and bloody marys with brunch. I definitely support that. Incidentally what’s a Belgian coffee?

Surfside is located at 2444 Wisconsin Ave, NW. Its Web site says:

“Surfside is all about laid-back, simple preparations with grilled steak, fish, shrimp and chicken with a wide array of fresh vegetables served on a colorfull plate in a bright open space. Perfect for a quick bite or a gathering with friends – great for families and kids. Discover our rooftop deck and the authentic bold flavors of our fresh made salsas, moles, curries and the best guacamole in town. Enjoy a frozen margarita, tropical blender drink or sangria with your meal or choose from an eclectic mix of international beers and wines.”

You can see their menu here. It is amazing to me how many new restaurants have come to Glover Park in the last 5 years. This stretch is of Wisconsin Ave. really has a nice vibe going on now. So any fans of Surfside? It was pretty crowded when I walked by…

I’ve actually received a few emails about this but wasn’t able to track down an exact location but I still thought it was worth mentioning. The most recent reader writes:

“Last Sunday, on my way to check out Room 11, I passed by a very smoky barbecue on Park Rd. I approached and, asking what’s cooking, found a group of women huddled around a bunch of grilling chicken breasts and a very spicy looking red herbed sauce. They told me they already finished cooking the fish. I asked where they were from, and after telling me Vietnam, asked if I liked Vietnamese food. “Yes!” I said, and few in a few names of vietnamese dishes for street cred. They were quick to tell me that they are opening a Vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood!!! They said the spot will be on 14th st, a few blocks north up by the gas station (I can’t remember which). The said it will be ready in about a month, and will be called “Pho Viet”.”

Of course Pho 14 recently opened up on Park Road just west of 14th Street. Perhaps the folks behind Pho Viet were inspired by their success. Are you excited by the idea of another Pho spot? I will of course update when more info becomes available.

I think of Bar Pilar as more of a bar than a restaurant but there have been some comments lately lauding the food. We briefly discussed the spot when we looked at the best tapas type restaurants in the city. But I figured I’d ask more folks specifically about Bar Pilar located at 1833 14th Street, NW. What do you think of the food here?

I dig the transom:

Speaking of Japanese restaurants, Kushi Izakaya will be located at 465 K Street, NW near the Bus Boys & Poets in the City Vista building. It looks like it’s going to be a pretty big space. I’m looking forward to checking it out. It looks like work hasn’t yet begun constructing the space so I’m not sure what the time frame on the opening is but I’ll be sure to update when it does.

If I stay away from H Street, NE for a few weeks there’s always new development when I go back on a walkabout. I was excited to see this new pizza spot, Inspire Pizzeria, coming to 650 H Street, NE. The sign says gourmet pizza:

Anyone ever heard of this place?
