New Bar on Connecticut Ave. – Maddy’s

I had the opportunity to stop by Maddy’s in the old Timberlakes spot located at 1726 Connecticut Ave, NW. I was able to speak one of the owners, Gaynor Jablonski. Jablonski is also owner of the Ugly Mug located at 723 8th St SE. Jablonski’s business partner is Dale Shields and Maddy’s is named after Shields’ mother. The spot has been open for about a month. Jablonski described the place as having many elements of the Ugly Mug but slightly higher end. I found it to be a very comfortable spot.

Fasika, formerly Abol, Ethiopian restaurant has a nice external renovation going on at 4422 Georgia Ave, NW. I wonder what the center part will be covered with. I’m totally digging the copper though…

Has anyone tried these guys out?

The rig is pretty impressive, but more importantly what about the food? Would love to know who has the best BBQ here in the city. I live in the Bloomingdale neighborhood and it would rock to have a BBQ place close by. There is a BBQ place on RI Ave by the Getty Station but really doesn’t look like it does any business…nor does it look sanitary. Would love to hear what people have to say.”

Wow, this looks pretty cool. Mt. Vernon Triangle blog wrote about it here. It is located on the corner of 6th 4th and New York Ave, NW. DC Pit BBQ is Georgia based but features Kansas City Style BBQ. Anyone give them a try yet?

Dear PoP – Chipotle on 14th Street Looking Good

“Dear PoP,

Just a quick note to pass along these grainy-but-exciting photos I couldn’t help but take on my way home last night. They’ve taken the paper off the windows at the Chipotle going on on 14th, where they’ve got menus, furniture and other fixtures all ready to go. I can practically smell the cilantro!”

Last I heard they were going to open by December so it looks like they’re gonna make that goal! This Chipotle will be opening up at 3113 14th Street, NW.

Free Burgers From 11-12pm if you’re in Dupont

If you’re in Dupont (as well as Alexandria and Bethesda) and you have a pen Washingtonian reports that the BGR locations are offering free burgers if you write “BGR” anywhere on your body. Free regular and veggie burgers offered. Since this has been covered by lots of folks on the web and via twitter I suspect the lines are going to be insane. Senor Chicken Opening Very Soon But Not Yet

There have been some false reports today that Senor Chicken has opened up on Park Road just west of 14th Street in Columbia Heights. On Sunday I saw some folks in the store but the doors were locked. While talking to them through the window they said they were not open but would be opening soon. I said, next week? They replied, soon. I walked by today at 1:30pm and the door was locked but there was soda in the fridge so they should be opening any day now.
