Thanks to a reader for sending the heads up about the new signage and help wanted sign that just went up for Sakuramen. Back in Jan. 2012 I mentioned that a new Ramen shop might be coming to the former Jumbo Slices and Kabob space at 2441 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan. Looks like it’s the real deal and close to opening. Their website says:

We’re just a couple guys who are passionate about ramen, which we feel is the ultimate comfort food, inspiring childhood memories of sharing with family and friends. Our sole focus is to create the best ramen on the planet, without using artificial flavorings of any kind, sourced from pure bone broth coupled with the freshest ingredients available.

We do NOT favor any particular style or cultural influence when it comes to our ramen dishes. With an unbridled approach to culinary creativity, we strive to deliver to you, our Customer, a unique dining experience that highlights a fusion of diverse flavors from across the globe. From ramen houses in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Seoul, to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, we are pleased to see that others love ramen as much as we do… and so we are especially proud to open our doors in Washington DC, in the heart of a city we love to call home.

You can see some photos of their ramen here. Stay tuned.

From a press release:

After two years of testing pies and processes, H &pizza is targeting June 1st, 2012 for their grand opening.

“We love fresh pizza. And when we want it, we want it fast!” says H &pizza’s co-owner
Steve Salis. The native New Yorker’s mission is to provide fresh, natural, fast, filling and
delicious pizza. Salis along with longtime friend and co-owner Michael Lastoria aggressively
pursued the former Birdland space next to Taylor Gourmet on H Street. The Atlas District
is a natural fit for their vision of a neighborhood pizza joint; a place where food lovers can
enjoy gourmet tastes without grandiose prices.

Pizza lovers in the district can walk up to H &pizza’s counter and choose from traditional,
whole-wheat or 9-grain dough. H &pizza will offer five types of house made sauces and
house made whole-milk mozzarella, made fresh daily. Customers can then decorate their
pies with a wide range of fresh, locally sourced ingredients compatible with any dietary
need. Pizza’s are topped and then blast-fired in H &pizza’s oven, ready to eat in the time it
takes you to pull up a chair and greet your friends.

H &pizza proudly prohibits pre-made pies, re-heating of pies and compromising
quality. Salis and Lastoria agree, “We’re two guys passionately committed to creating great
pizza.”

Hours: 11AM – 9PM Sunday – Thursday. 11AM – 3AM Friday & Saturday.

Ed. Note: H & Pizza was formerly known as Kith & Kin.

Normally I wait a bit longer to judge new restaurants but I’ve been getting so many positive emails I wanted to share the good early word. Maple is located at 3418 11th St, NW next to Columbia Heights Coffee. Their website says:

“Modern American menu with Italian influences. Extensive selection of wine. Craft beers and specialty cocktails.”

You can see their menu here. Any must order items?

Sunday – Wednesday 5 p.m. to midnight
Thursday – Saturday 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Mondays closed
