3815 Georgia Ave, NW

What started as sweet scuttlebutt in 2009 is finally a reality! Chez Billy is located in the historic Billy Simpson’s House of Seafood building at 3815 Georgia Ave, NW.

This is what it used to look like just three years ago:

Here’s what the inside looked like in 2010:

Final touches were ongoing when I stopped by yesterday but this is a taste of what it looks like now:

Chez Billy comes to you from the Hilton brothers (Marvin, Gibson, Blackbyrd, Brixton, and more) and developer Chris Donatelli. See y’all Sunday!

Thanks to a reader for sending the word that:

“4912 Thai located at Fessenden and Wisconsin reopened as Tanad Thai run by the son of the original owners.”

Tanad Thai is located at 4912 Wisconsin Ave, NW. In Jan. 2012 we noted that there was a lot of love for 4912 Thai which was closed after it’s retail license was suspended.

A reader writes:

“El Torogoz has the best foodie happy hour in Petworth. They have the most kick-ass fresh nachos you can find in town for only $5!!!”

El Torogoz is located at 4231 9th St NW (just north of Upshur). We last judged them back in March 2011.

Anyone else try the nachos? Any other must order items?

They also have a great outdoor patio area that faces one of my favorite pocket parks in the city:

Thanks to all who wrote in about the new sandwich spot coming next to the YES! Organic Market at Georgia and Taylor St, NW. I spoke briefly with the owner who was extremely nice and said the place will be called Epiphany. The space is being completely gutted and renovated and they hope to open by May 15th. I’m cautiously optimistic about the Pastrami sandwich. Here’s a partial peek at the menu:

6th and F St, NW

They did it with their K street location and now they’re doing it with their Chinatown location opening Thurs. at 6th and F St, NW.

633 Pennsylvania Ave, SE

Tom Sietsema broke the big news yesterday afternoon via twitter:

“Guess who’ve hooked up? @jamieleeds and @MixtressDC. Chef & cocktail maven are opening a third @HanksOysterBar @ 633 Penn. Ave SE. in June.”

You can see Hank’s Oyster Bar menu here. Ba Bay closed in Nov. 2011. Think Hank’s is a good fit for this location?

Ed. Note: The address was initially listed as NW and changed to SE.

1408 U St NW

On Monday we learned of the temporary closures of Utopia, and soon, DC Noodles on the 1400 block of U St, NW due to construction at 14th and U St, NW. Thanks to a reader for sending a tip about the great Mediterranean restaurant, 24 Seven located at 1408 U St, NW.

I spoke with the owner yesterday who confirmed that he is looking to move into the former Love Cafe space which closed at the end of Jan. 2012 at the corner of 15th and U St, NW.

A few weeks ago we noted 876 Cafe was coming to the former Indian Ocean restaurant at 4221 Connecticut Ave, NW in Van Ness. Thanks to a reader for sending word that they’ve opened today. Their Web site says:

Enjoy the complex yet simplistic fusion of Caribbean cuisine with Washington’s premier restaurant 876 Cafe. Located one block from the Van Ness metro station neighboring the Cleveland Park area, 876 Cafe invites you to experience familiar dishes piqued with zesty accents of the islands.

Inside, the warm and open decor showcases talent of local artists and helps the customer to transcend to a vibe where everything is “irie and cool”. Sample favorites like our fresh multi-green salad infused with sweet coconut-gingered flakes, ackee and saltfish wraps or our refreshing coconut water contained in the original husk.

And as with everything you can expect exceptional service in a casual environment.

Go ahead. Grab a group of your friends or co-workers and relax on the veranda, bar or swanky WiFi lounge area for lunch, dinner, weekend brunch or happy hour. 876 Cafe promises to stimulate your pallet and captivate your senses.

You can see their menus here.
