903 N St, NW

A couple weeks ago we noted the new signage for Table coming to 903 N St, NW from Chef Frederik de Pue. They just applied for a liquor license and it reveals even more great news – a roof deck:

“New Restaurant, with relaxed environment. Inside Seating for 50, Sidewalk Café with 20 Seats, Roof Top Deck (Summer Garden) with 60 Seats. Total Load of 110.”

Very cool.

Back in April we learned 24/seven was moving from 1408 U St, NW to the former Love Cafe space at the corner of 15th and U St, NW and would be renamed Mediterranean. I stopped in to see if they were close to opening and was told that gas lines still need to be hooked up so it could be another couple of weeks before they open. Stay tuned.

Lots of news on spots coming near the Verizon Center this week ( Daikaya Ramen Shop and a new cocktail lounge near Fuel Pizza.) And now one more – Townhouse Kitchen & Bar is coming to 700 6th Street, NW. Their liquor license application says:

“A casual yet elegant urban restaurant and wine bar serving small plates, sandwiches, salads and entrees with a seating capacity of 243 and a total occupancy load of 301. Request a sidewalk café with 46 seats.”

NBC Washington reports:

“The original location of a longtime D.C. fave, Armand’s Pizzeria, will close its doors June 30, News4’s Shomari Stone first reported.

At this point, the six other locations will stay open, but it would cost $200,000 to keep the historic flagship location running.”

Armand’s Web site says:

Welcome to Lew Newmyer’s original Armand’s Chicago Pizzeria. Back in 1969 Lew Newmyer, inspired by his youth spent in Atlantic City, opened a sub and sandwich shop in Washington DC. In 1975, Lew, after traveling to Chicago experienced deep dish pizza. At that time no one in the DC area offered deep dish Chicago style pizza. Lew and his sons spent months working closely with many people in developing their own dough and sauce recipe.

Today, over twenty five years later, that recipe and Armand’s expanded menu offerings are famous and still growing. A perennial Washingtonian Magazine award winner for “Best Pizza”.

With eleven area locations including full service restaurants, party rooms and Express Delivery stores, Armand’s continues to be a Washington area favorite. Our unique recipes and friendly staff are what truly make the Armand’s experience great!

Any fans of Armand’s?

I can’t believe Graffiato is turning one year old already.

From an email:

This weekend, Graffiato introduces an expanded brunch menu, Market Mimosas and a new “Booze and Bites” option, allowing guests to enjoy any three menu items for $25, including a selection of brunch cocktails.

The expanded brunch menu features soon-to-be favorites like French toast with mascarpone and maple syrup, crispy lamb with favas, yogurt and cucumber, and a crab scramble with arugula and ricotta salata.

New libations include a section of Market Mimosas – Lemon Basil, Strawberry or Blood Orange with Prosecco. Sound familiar? These are boozy versions of housemade soda flavors by mixologist, Taha Ismail.

Brunch is available Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm, starting June 2.

Sweet Corn Agnolotti Watch 2012
Graffiato turns one on Saturday, June 23. To celebrate, they are bringing back one of their most popular dishes, sweet corn agnolotti. The pillow-shaped stuffed pasta will be offered throughout the summer, as long as the sweet corn lasts.

Back on the 1st of May we learned that Pulpos from the owner of Floriana would be opening in Cleveland Park’s short lived Tackle Box. I stopped in earlier this week and the space is looking good (though construction continues for more seating on the second floor):

Their Web site says:

Pulpo offers Spanish tapas inspired cuisine with American Fusion. Located in the beautiful and historic Cleveland Park neighborhood.

Pulpo’s extensive wine list features wines from Spain, Europe, and South America as well as four different Sangrias. Our four large communal tables and open kitchen, allows guest to enjoy the amazing culinary experience that Pulpo has to offer.

Ed. Note: They are still getting their liquor license and in the meantime offer mocktails.

Check the menu after the jump. (more…)

1769 Columbia Rd, NW

Dear PoPville,

I just noticed that there is a new construction permit up at the old Pizza Hut location on 1769 Columbia Road. The Permit is for alterations by owner and the owner is listed as Tommy Hoang. A quick google of Tommy Hoang + DC shows that he is behind Pho 14.

Pizza Hut closed at 1769 Columbia Rd, NW back in Aug. 2011. Pho 14 is the super popular joint at 1436 Park Rd, NW in Columbia Heights. You can see their menu here.

The owner Mr. Hoang writes me:

“To us, it has been a true honor and privilege to have served the Columbia Heights community for the past years, we hope to continue to promote our culture and food throughout other locations in the District.”

CityPaper reported yesterday that they plan on opening in late summer/early fall. Updates as construction progresses. Great news for Adams Morgan!
