From a press release:

YO! Sushi, is crossing the pond this summer, opening its first US location in Washington, DC’s historic Union Station this July. Known internationally for its fresh perspective on Japanese cuisine and unique dining experience, YO! Sushi comes complete with its conveyor belt and popular menu of over 70 Japanese inspired dishes, to one of the world’s most dynamic, cosmopolitan cities.

YO! Sushi currently operates throughout the UK, as well as the Middle East and Norway. Washington, DC was selected for the company’s American debut because of the city’s vibrant and diverse community. YO! Sushi has built its reputation often in mass transit stations, bustling urban areas and in premium shopping centers, offering outstanding quality and excellent service with every visit. Union Station will be no exception, making YO! Sushi convenient to residents, Capitol Hill staffers, business travelers and DC tourists alike.

YO! Sushi’s conveyor belt system puts the entire menu of fresh, handmade menu items literally at guests’ fingertips, making a quality twenty minute sit-down meal a reality for someone on the go. A computer monitored tracking system ensures that no dish remains on the conveyor belt longer than one hour, guaranteeing that every dish is fresh.

The restaurant’s design caters to guest interaction, as each seat features an airplane-style call button to ring servers, as well as a water dispenser filtering complimentary chilled still water.

YO! Sushi offers guests seating at the conveyor belt, or at tables for a more conventional meal with outstanding tableside service.

YO! Sushi’s ninjas make every dish fresh to order, always available for dine-in or carry-out. The ninjas are highly trained at their craft, offering YO! Sushi signature creations like the Salmon and Avocado hand roll, a seaweed cone packed with rice, premium salmon, avocado, mayonnaise and sesame seeds, and the Spicy Tuna Gunkan, featuring top-quality yellowfin tuna with spicy masago sauce and spring onion atop two pieces of rice wrapped in seaweed.

But YO! Sushi is just as much about sushi as it is about other modern Japanese inspired food and drink. YO! Sushi’s ninjas craft hot favorites like spicy Shrimp Firecracker Rice with Asian vegetables, pan-fried Yakisoba Noodles in a mild tangy sauce with a choice of chicken, shrimp or vegetables, and Chicken Katsu Curry, crispy fried chicken with rice, a mild curry sauce and a Japanese pickle.

YO! Sushi’s Executive Chef, Noriyuki Kudo, a native of Japan, has worked in a number of renowned restaurants, most recently Sushi Roku and Katana in Los Angeles. He comes to DC with his knives at the ready and a crew of skilled ninjas ready to impress.

1818 14th Street, NW

Back in March 2012 we got confirmation that Ted’s Bulletin would be opening up a 2nd restaurant at 14th and Swann St, NW. We are now one step closer to adult milkshakes. And I’m having a hard time containing my joy reading a description of the place on their liquor license application:

“Upscale 1930’s Art Deco Diner offering comfort food and breakfast all hour of operation. Occupancy Load is 191.”

And on a side note: I wonder how long the Swann Auto Sales lot across the street from the future Ted’s will remain a lot before getting bought and developed?

A couple weeks ago a reader wrote in with word of Dangerously Delicious Pies opening a spot in the food court of Union Station. And now Dangerously Delicious Pies tweets:

“IT’S OFFICIAL!!! Dangerously Delicious Pies will be slingin pies at Union Station Thursday at 10am!! See y’all then!”

They’ve got pretty big shoes to fill as I believe this space was once home to Vacaro’s

1426 L St, NW

Roc Bar is coming to the former Reserve space (which closed back in June 2011) that was located at 1426 L St, NW next to the Post Pub. According to a liquor license application, it will be a:

“New Tavern serving full menu grilled foods, chicken, burgers, and salads with seating for 90 patrons and total occupancy load of 90. Sidewalk café with 24 seats and entertainment endorsement with DJ and dancing.”

More info as it becomes available.

200 Upshur St, NW

Back in Oct. 2010 we first learned that the Hitching Post, located at 200 Upshur St, NW (across the street from the Old Soldiers Home) at the corner of Rock Creek Church Rd, and Upshur, was for sale. Well – I’ve got good news and bad news: The Hitching Post has sold. The Hitching Post has been bought by the owner of Fusion located at 4815 Georgia Ave, NW.

The Hitching Post has been owned by one of the nicest families you’ll ever meet – the Carters. Danny Harris wrote a great profile on Mr. Carter back in Sept. 2009.

At that time Mr. Carter said:

“I think that our music box has also been a big addition to our popularity. We carry a mixture of music, much of it dating back to the 1940s. I still enjoy listening to Big Band, it has always been a part of my repertoire. We have some of our favorite artists such as Nat King Cole, Jo Stafford, and Chet Baker. A lot of the music is quiet music, nothing that is going to blow you out of here. We do have a little music that would be attractive to the younger generation, but most of our music is for a subtle dining atmosphere. With that Ipod you can collect more of what is available, but the music box still has something that you can’t replace, nostalgia. I think that in time, the music box is going to be an old dinosaur, just like the Carters!

Now the good news – the owner of Fusion, Barry Dindyal and his family are also among the nicest you’ll ever meet. If you’ve never met Barry or his family you can do so on Thurs. June 28 for Fusion customers appreciation day from 5pm-9pm at 4815 Georgia Ave, NW.

Additionally there is not going to be a huge change with the space. They are keeping the name Hitching Post and the famous fried chicken! The menu will not be Indian like Fusion. It will be an affordable American style spot. They will also offer Saturday and Sunday brunch, a great outdoor patio, a new happy hour and most entrees will be between $12-$15. Hitching Post’s last day will be July 31st and they will reopen Aug. 7th.

1st and Seaton Place, NW

Back in May I shared some scuttlebutt that an American pub was coming to 1st and Seaton Place, NW. Turns out it’s way better than just an American pub! From the Washington Post:

The opening sommelier and executive sous chef at Proof in Penn Quarter are teaming up to launch an Italian-influenced American restaurant in Washington’s Bloomingdale neighborhood “early in the new year,” announced wine maven Sebastian Zutant.

1320 14th St, NW

Back in mid-May The Pig opened up at 1320 14th St, NW in Logan Circle. Starting Saturday they’ll be open for brunch:

“Chef de Cuisine Garret Fleming is serving up fabulous traditional brunch dishes with a contemporary spin including Smoked Ham Benedict, with buttermilk biscuit, duck egg, and poblano hollandaise. Other signature dishes are the Gnocchi & Eggs Bacon Lardon, or Huevos Tomatillos, with eggs, smoked chorizo, lentils, house cheese, on a corn tortilla.”
