“DDOT and DPW Announce Parking and Service Adjustments”

Silver lining is those God forsaken reversible lanes during rush hour have been suspended

“The District of Columbia Government has modified its operations in order to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the District Department of Public Works (DPW) have modified several operations, systems and services.

District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

  • All rush hour parking restrictions will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m.
  • Rush hour reversible lanes operations on Connecticut Avenue and 16th Street NW will be suspended effective Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 a.m. Reversible lanes operations on Independence Avenue and Canal Road will continue to operate as normal during the morning and evening rush hours. DDOT will use dynamic message boards to communicate these changes to the traveling public.
  • Effective immediately, the DC Circulator is suspending fares on all routes during the declared public health emergency. Additionally, effective Thursday, March 19, the DC Circulator will suspend service on the National Mall Route. Suspension of fares allows passengers to board the bus from all doors in support of social distancing practices recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Passengers who require wheelchair access may still use the front door to board.

“As of 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, the District’s coronavirus (COVID-19) data includes eight new positive cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 39 individuals.

With ongoing community transmission, contact tracing is focused on positive cases associated with childcare facilities, schools and universities, healthcare facilities, senior care facilities, correctional and detention centers, and facilities serving individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Guidance will be published for healthcare providers, employers and the public to provide information on what to do if you have been diagnosed with or are a contact of someone who has COVID-19.

District residents are encouraged to continue practicing social distancing and take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19: (more…)

“Metropolitan Police Department Operational Adjustments During COVID-19”

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) takes pride in professionally responding to crisis situations, and we will continue to do so throughout the current public health emergency. This is a constantly evolving situation that requires MPD to do our part to limit exposure without interrupting the high level of service provided to our community. It is necessary that MPD maintains a healthy workforce so that we may continue providing emergency services when called upon. We have identified certain operational measures that can be temporarily modified for the community and our members.

It is important to note that MPD facilities remain open at this time, but to mitigate potential exposure to and spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), operational adjustments have been implemented and will continue to expand as required. Additionally, if calling for police services and you are experiencing flu-like or COVID-19 symptoms, including fever, cough, and shortness of breath, callers should notify the dispatcher so first responders may take appropriate safety precautions upon their arrival.

A lot of folks have been asking me about the status of gyms since we learned restaurants and bars would close (with many transitioning to pick up/take out only.) ABRA sends some more guidance:

“Effective immediately, per Mayor’s Order 2020-048: Prohibition on Mass Gatherings During Public Health Emergency Coronavirus (COVID-19), all “mass gatherings” in DC are prohibited.

A mass gathering is considered any event or convening bringing together 50 or more persons at the same time in a single room or other single confined or enclosed space.

Accordingly, restaurants and taverns must cease table seating effective tonight, Monday, March 16, 2020 at 10:00 p.m. until Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at 6:00 a.m. These establishments may only provide delivery and grab-and-go operations during this period.

Additionally, all venues doing business as nightclubs, multipurpose facilities, health clubs, health spas, massage establishments, and theaters must also suspend operations. (more…)

Operations and Infrastructure

District Department of Transportation (DDOT)

DDOT remains open, with most DDOT staff teleworking through Tuesday, March 31. Programs that will maintain normal operations are:

  • DC Circulator will operate its regular schedule.
  • DC Streetcar will operate its regular schedule.
  • Capital Bikeshare will continue regular operations.
  • In-person public space permits are still available at 1100 4th Street, SW.
  • DDOT will continue reversible lane operations during rush hour.
  • Construction work will continue in the District’s public space.
  • Permit distribution will continue through DDOT’s Public Space Regulation Division.

Department of Public Works (DPW)

DPW remains open, with a limited number of DPW staff teleworking through Tuesday, March 31. Programs that will maintain normal operations are:

  • Trash collection
  • Parking ticket issuance (except for street sweeping which will be suspended during this time period)
  • Towing and booting
