From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser, in line with the most recent recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), encourages all adults 18 and older to get COVID-19 booster shots. The Mayor also issued Mayor’s Order 2021-142 which modifies certain COVID-19 indoor mask mandates. Instead of following a blanket mandate, (more…)

More info from Councilmember Elisa Silverman:

“By law, every 10 years the District of Columbia needs to rebalance its population among the city’s electoral districts so all are roughly equal in size, within a legally permissible range. The District’s official Census count was 689,545, which means every ward must be between 81,883 and 90,503 residents. Currently, three wards fall outside of the mandated population boundaries: Wards 6, 7, and 8. Therefore, these three wards must be redrawn to ensure residents have equal representation in local government, and other wards may be impacted due to cascading effects and other considerations. Yesterday Council Chair Phil Mendelhson tweeted: “Today I, along with several colleagues, asked the Mayor to reverse her decision to drop the city’s indoor mask mandate. We are concerned this decision puts our most vulnerable residents at risk.

Children over 5 were able to get a vaccine barely 2 weeks ago. And while kids may be considered a “small portion of the population,” they are one of the hardest to protect.

We ask the Executive to follow federal guidance when it comes to COVID-19 mitigation & masking.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Bowser announced that on Monday, November 22, the District’s indoor mask mandate will be lifted. Instead of following a blanket mandate, residents, visitors, and workers will be advised to follow risk-based guidance from DC Health that accounts for current health metrics and a person’s vaccination status. Updated guidance will be posted on coronavirus.dc.gov in the coming days. DC Health reminds residents that the strongest protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated, and encourages all people, regardless of vaccination status, to consider their risk factors and surroundings carefully when choosing layered mitigations strategies (e.g., wearing a mask, social distancing).

Masks will still be required, regardless of vaccination status, in the following circumstances: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

As my family and I left a youth soccer match at Raymond Rec Center on Sat. morning, I spotted Ward 4 Board of Education Member Frazier O’Leary’s Benz blocking a fire hydrant at the intersection of Quebec Pl and 10th St NW. The hazards were not on, and nothing suggested the driver’s return was imminent. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, as she kicked off DMV Black Restaurant Week, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced nearly $9 million in grants through the Food Access Fund to provide funding to food businesses to open new locations in Wards 7 and 8. Mayor Bowser included the $58 million initiative in her Fair Shot Budget with the goal of eradicating food deserts and creating employment opportunities and economic vibrancy.

“We have an incredible amount of entrepreneurial talent and creativity in DC, especially in our restaurant and foodservice industries – it’s just not equally distributed or equally funded. The Food Access Grants are going to change that,” said Mayor Bowser. “With this $58 million fund, we can bring DC favorites like HalfSmoke that currently operate in some of our most popular corridors on the west side of the city and support them in opening new locations in Wards 7 and 8. We can also support popular spots that are already in Wards 7 and 8, like MLK Deli, and make sure they have the resources necessary to expand and reach more Washingtonians. We already know that we have residents in every part of our city who are eager to support local businesses; the Food Access Grants are not only delivering more food options to Wards 7 and 8, they’re delivering new opportunities to stay local and shop local.”

The Food Access Fund recipients include: (more…)
