“The cost burden from repairing the balconies will likely force out long-time residents.”

“Dear PoPville,

Mount Pleasant residents probably aren’t aware that the small group of ardent preservationists controlling Historic Mount Pleasant want to force residents of the Kenesaw apartment building to spend $1.5M+ to repair unsafe ornamental balconies on the building rather than simply remove them.

Many apartments in the building belong to an affordable housing cooperative that was created prior to the neighborhood being designated a Historic District, and residents in the coop cannot afford the repairs. The cost burden from repairing the balconies will likely force out long-time residents.

There’s an appeals hearing scheduled for tomorrow. Neighbors can submit written testimony to the Office of Planning by following the directions here.

ANC 1D unanimously supports the apartment building residents”
