“Dear PoPville,

I saw your story about Francis Stevens pool being closed for the few months it is open in the summer – announced on May 24, a week before it was to open. That was just infuriating – that the city could not have determined what repairs needed to be done and did them between September of last year and May of this year, and notifying residents a week before it was to open.

Now today I went to go swimming at the Dunbar pool and there was a sign that said that the Dunbar pool is closed for the summer season starting June 17. WTF? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to share an amazing experience I had getting my 18-month old daughter’s first dose of the covid vaccine at the Ward 4 Covid Center on 13th St. this morning (Wed.) The DC Covid website hasn’t been updated yet and I got all of my information from Twitter, so wanted to share our experience in case it helps another parent.

I was expecting big crowds, so we arrived an hour early at 9 am before the Covid Center opened at 10 am and we were first in line. (more…)

Thanks to Erin for sharing: “More trash cans being removed for some reason? This one at Quincy and Kansas. What’s the deal?

I put a ticket in months ago for the trash can that disappeared right in front of the Raymond park entrance, they said it was resolved, and we still don’t have a trash can.”

Ed. Note: A 311 ticket has been filed, we’ll see if a new can arrives here or any of the other spots where they’ve recently vanished.

“Dear PoPville,

Can we get a PSA regarding voting in DC? I’m an election worker and it’s been very quiet this week–probably because of the absentee ballots, but we’ve also encountered a number of people who don’t know some things about how easy it is to vote here. Notably: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing to share that I changed my DC address and voter registration (I have my paper voter card) in January, yet my absentee ballot was sent to my previous address. I’ll now be voting in person, and I imagine there could be folks waiting for a ballot who should know they may need to do the same or should contact DCBOE to find out what their options are.”

Thanks to Michelle for sharing. I can confirm that I’ve been getting similar hauls on the daily.

It’s crazy every time I think I know who I’m voting for I get a flyer and I’m like, oh wow, I’m gonna vote for them. I have great conviction and confidence in that decision. But then I go for my afternoon constitutional and pass some lawn signs and the confidence of my earlier decision is shaken to the core. And to make matters worse the next day I get a whole new batch of flyers, shattering my previous day’s decision once and for all.

T-14 days to Primary Election Day: June 21, 2022. Choose wisely: (more…)

From DC Health:

“On June 4, the DC Public Health Lab confirmed the first positive Orthopox case in a District resident who reported recent travel to Europe. The collected samples have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for further testing and confirmation of the Monkeypox virus. Monkeypox is in the Orthopox family of viruses.

The patient is currently isolating and does not pose a risk to the public. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed recently that in both US Park Service-managed sections of Rock Creek Park (below Calvert street, and below the P St Bridge), the grass was very tall.

I just spoke with a very kind woman at the Park Service and she said that they normally contract that work out, but that the contract was stalled in processing and so they had to (slowly) do the work in-house. (more…)
