I have had issues getting into contact with the DC Board of Nursing. I, as well as my college, have reached out to the general phone number and sent multiple emails with no communication from the department. Furthermore, I have reached out to the specific reviewer that they said is assigned to my case and I get automatically forwarded to a voicemail and, despite having left voicemails, receive no response and receive no response from them when directly emailing them. The other day I called 311 for a parking issue on private property. Within a few minutes of my call ending, the situation escalated to a vehicle collision and physical assault. When I tried calling 911, my phone would not allow the call, it would just close the phone app whenever I tried. I was not focusing well on my phone because the attacker was still there, but I saw a massage saying something like having just used an emergency number, i was not able to make this call. (more…)

I always thought that DC merely threw away its recyclables, but it was done behind the scenes. Today, the secret is out. Both green and blue bins dumped in same compactor. According to our maintenance man, it’s the second week in a row DC sanitation has done this. The excuse? “Not enough manpower, not enough trucks.” This was the answer provided by DC Sanitation worker.”

DDOT closing down the whole street of 1300-1400 M St NW with zero notice. Takes up both sides of street parking. Signs were printed the day before (as noted on sign) are they allowed to do this? Very frustrating! Address listed on sign also wrong!!”

Has anyone had any success in getting sanitation to replace public trash cans once they have removed them? I live between 13th and 14th streets, and every few months DC will collectively punish our neighborhood for people putting household trash in public cans by removing the cans themselves. (more…)

“Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that she has named Ashan M. Benedict as the interim Chief of Police at the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Chief Benedict has served as the Executive Assistant Chief of Police at MPD since April 2021 when he was appointed by Chief Contee. I noticed yesterday that DPR put up signs at the Marie Reed tennis courts prohibiting pickleball. There’s definitely been an uptick in pickleball play at the courts recently, so I guess the tennis players are pushing back. Naturally, when I took this photo there was a dog owner and its dog playing fetch inside the court.”

“The District’s Department of Human Services (DHS) announced the results of the 2023 Point in Time (PIT) count, the annual census of individuals experiencing homelessness. This year’s count took place on January 25, 2023.
After several consecutive years of declining PIT counts, the 2023 count data showed an overall 11.6% increase from 2022. This includes a 10.2% increase among unaccompanied individuals and a 12.1% increase among families.
