Update from OP:

“I spoke with our building manager. I received more clarity – the term “master keys” were used generally at the time of the theft. Specifically, what was stolen were the “Staff master keys” that allow access through the front door (which is a fobbed entry) and access to our package room. This also does provide full access to all the floors of our 9 story building, as well as the parking garage.

This does not 100% rule out the possibility that the individual keys to each unit were accessed, but makes it more unlikely. Therefore, it is unclear how he got inside my unit and still it is unclear how he stole the “staff master keys”.”

“Dear PoPville,

This is a long one but I hope you’ll share with the community, because it is particularly brazen and concerning if you live in a large multi-family building like I do. How they did it was a new method that stunned the police. On Thursday morning, my car was stolen out of the parking garage of my condo building.

It appears that the criminal(s) broke into the building office where the master key to the lock box is located, potentially found the key to my unit, entered my unit while my friend and I were sleeping, and stole my bag with my laptop and my car keys. (more…)
