“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a traffic crash that occurred at 6th and D Streets NW.

On Monday, June 3, 2024, at approximately 1:11 p.m., a 22-year-old woman walked away from her family while at Washington Hospital Center.  At the same time, a Mazda SUV pulled up to the front of the hospital and the driver exited the Mazda to obtain a wheelchair for her mother, who was riding in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The 22-year-old woman entered the driver’s seat of the Mazda and drove away with the mother inside the vehicle.

At approximately 1:29 p.m., the Mazda was traveling northbound in the 400 block of 6th Street, Northwest. As the suspect attempted to turn left onto D Street, Northwest, the suspect failed to negotiate the turn and collided with the building at 601 D Street, Northwest.  The suspect exited the Mazda and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended immediately by a MPD captain. Saylor and MicroStrategy, Inc., the company he co-founded and led, will pay $40 million to resolve a tax fraud lawsuit filed by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) alleging that Saylor had defrauded the District of over $25 million in income taxes. From the office of the DC Attorney General:

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that Jerri Evans, owner of the Turning Natural juice bar chain, pled guilty in Superior Court to one criminal count of failure to pay sales tax for tax years 2017 through 2020, and must pay the District $452,522.07 in back taxes, penalties, and interest. Evans collected sales tax from customers but failed to remit those funds over to the District as required by law. (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces two suspects were apprehended after shooting at an off-duty MPD captain in Northwest.

On Monday, May 20, 2024, at approximately 12:09 p.m., officers received a call for a shooting in the 5800 block of 7th Street, Northwest. An off-duty MPD captain was driving his personal vehicle to work when he spotted a car driving erratically in front of him. The car stopped, one suspect got out, and shot at the captain’s vehicle.

The captain was injured in the shooting and drove his vehicle to the Fourth District Station for assistance. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite his injuries, the captain was able to note part of the suspect vehicle’s license plate number, (more…)
