“This afternoon [Monday], around 12pm, my partner was sitting in his car writing an email on his phone in front of Streets Market on 14th when a man approached the car and knocked on the window. He lowered the window a couple inches, and the man demanded that he hand over everything on him. Luckily a car turned up the street at that moment, distracting the would-be robber, and he was able to drive away and call the police. Police were on the scene in 20 minutes, and were able to apprehend the suspect, as he had already robbed someone right before. Thanks to the police, this guy is off the streets, at least for now.”

From an email:
“Just wanted to give restaurants a heads up on a scammer. This gentleman came into our establishment, saying that our GM (named her by name), promised we would reimburse him for his dry cleaning bill after we spilled something on his Lieutenants jacket a few weeks ago. I was able to get in touch with my GM and check his story out, it did not. I tried getting his contact info, to let him know I would be happy to reimburse him when I talked to my GM. He said he would be going to court the next day to file a claim against us. I text a couple of other friends in the restaurant business to warn them about him, and it seems they had already been hit by him. The gentleman is a well dressed black male, about mid 30’s, slightly receding hairline, and wore glasses.”

Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced the arrests of two suspects involved in separate homicide incidents that occurred on Sunday, November 27, 2016.
“When tragedy strikes there is no more necessary and effective way to bring justice than to find, arrest, convict, and imprison those who do not value human life,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser. “I want to thank the public who came forward with information and the members of the Metropolitan Police Department who worked on these cases. We, as a city, will not let criminals get away with senselessly taking innocent lives, nor will we ever accept this type of violence as normal.”

From Walters Sports Bar [3632 Georgia Ave NW]:
“At 8:30 this morning Walters was broken into through our back door. Looks like 2 males jumped our back fence, broke our back window out and gained entrance. 2 hooded males with sparkly shoes stole our cash register and a case of Powers. While we appreciate their taste in whiskey if anyone saw something please let us or Investigator Kevin Decker 202.715.7506”

From MPD:
“At approximately 9:45pm on Thursday night, two subjects were observed shooting handguns in the 1400 block of R Street NW. An alert member of the community called 911 and gave a detailed description of the subjects. Responding units were quickly able to locate and apprehend both subjects in the area. Two handguns were recovered subsequent to the arrests of the two adult males. Fortunately, nobody was injured as a result of the reckless behavior by these subjects.
By calling 911 and providing the officers with a detailed description, the community member was critical in these successful apprehensions. This is another example of the outstanding relationship that the MPD (and the Third District specifically) values with our communities.
Thank you to all. Enjoy the holiday season and be safe.”

“Dear PoPville,
One of our bikes was stolen this past week from our locked storage shed in Columbia Heights. This is a unique bike so if you see it for sale by someone it is likely stolen.
It is a military green Montague Paratrooper folding bike and looks like this (above.) It has been slightly modified to keep the seat from sliding down when mountain biking.
Please contact teresa.crawford(at)gmail.com with tips.”
