“MPD drove down crime at a historic pace in 2024 thanks to a focus on data driven policing, strategic initiatives, and critical investments in technology. We are leveraging more tools at preventing crime and identifying criminal actors than ever before. Our initiatives and investments led to a historic 35% drop in violent crime in 2024, including a 32% drop in homicides, and a 39% decrease in robberies. These decreases drove crime in Washington, DC down to its lowest levels in more than two decades.

“The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in severe injuries of a pedestrian in Northeast.

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, at approximately 5:05 p.m., an adult male was walking westbound, on the north sidewalk, in the 600 block of Michigan Avenue, Northeast, when he was struck from behind by an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) operated by an unknown male suspect. The ATV was using the sidewalk to travel and after striking the pedestrian the driver fled the scene on the ATV. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital by DC Fire and EMS and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. (more…)

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced a lawsuit against Talea Ristorante and its owner, Hamza Hadani, for systematically stealing employees’ wages and violating other laws that protect District workers. An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) found that Talea and Hadani pay their employees less than half of the tipped minimum wage, fail to ensure tipped workers’ take-home pay meets the regular minimum wage, and deny workers paid sick leave and overtime pay, even as some of them work 70-hour weeks. The investigation also found that Hadani prohibits workers from discussing their pay with one another and then retaliates against those who protest their mistreatment by threatening and firing them. Monday Afternoon Shooting (1:56 p.m) Investigation “Leads to Arrest in Northwest Firearm Offenses”

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect linked to multiple offenses in Northwest.

On Monday, February 17, 2025, at approximately 1:56 p.m., Third District officers responded to the 3000 block of 14th Street, Northwest, for the report of gunfire. Witnesses reported seeing an individual exit a vehicle, fire a gun, and flee the scene. Officers recovered spent shell casings, and a lookout for the suspect and vehicle was broadcast to the Third District (CCN: 25023434).

The Third District Crime Suppression Team canvassed the area and located a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle, which was determined to be stolen. The suspect fled from the vehicle, (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announces the arrest of the restaurant owner of Moi Moi, in Northwest, for illegally selling alcohol after the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) revoked the restaurant’s license to sell alcohol in February 2024.

Throughout 2023 and 2024, MPD investigated several violent crimes at, or directly related to, Moi Moi, located in the 1600 block of K Street, Northwest. These crimes included a homicide, multiple shootings, assaults, and ABCA violations.

Shooting Homicide around 9:45pm on H Street, NE Last Night

“At approximately 9:47 p.m., on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, First District officers responded to the 700 block of H Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male suffering gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts the victim was pronounced deceased. Homicide detectives have assumed control over this investigation. “MPD is on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in the 3500 block of Georgia Avenue, NW. One suspect has been shot. No condition at this time. Additional information forthcoming. PIO on the scene.”

“MPD reports the following road closures due to police activity:

3300-3500 blocks of Georgia Avenue, NW, between Lamont Street and Newton Place
Westbound lanes in the 500-600 blocks of Park Road, NW, between Warder Street and Georgia Avenue”

“Multiple shots. May have been related to police traffic stop at Quebec and Georgia.”
