“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 3100 block of Hiatt Place NW. an adult male has sustained critical gunshot wounds to the upper body.

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, in the 3200 block of Hiatt Place, Northwest.

At approximately 1:14 am, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the sound of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. (more…)

A reader reports via email: “TONS of shots fired Saturday night around 9:30pm at the intersection of 5th and Kennedy Street NW. I’d guess about 15-25 shots total.”

“Yes that location did have an unlawful discharge of a firearm last night around 9:30 p.m.. Property damage was located at the Starlight Shopping Center however no injuries were reported 27 shell casings were located“.

From MPD:

“On September 26, 2020, at approximately 9:45pm, in the 5400 block of 5th St NW, there were multiple gunshots fired by an unknown suspect. There were no injuries reported, but there was damage sustained to a storefront and a parked vehicle. MPD recovered ballistic evidence on scene.

Juvenile Shot in Columbia Heights around 4:45pm Saturday

“Three bursts of gunshots in Columbia heights just now. Probably around 14th/Fairmont and Girard Street Community Center”

“Shooting number…. is it 7? Fairmont between 14th & 15th. About 15 shots fired.”

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW. a juvenile male has been transported to an area hospital with a non life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

Two Men Shot, One Killed in Friendship Heights 7:39pm Thursday

“Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 4500 block Western Avenue NW. Lookout for Black, Male wearing all black, 20’3-30’s. Have info? Call (202) 727-9099/text 50411”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2020, in the 5200 block of Western Avenue, Northwest.

At approximately 7:39 pm, members of the Second District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. “New York Couple Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges in $4 Million Extortion Scheme

The Defendants’ Son Pretended to Be a New York Mobster as Part of Scheme

Archie Kaslov, 54, and Candy Evans, 51, of New York, N.Y., pled guilty today to federal charges related to their roles in a wide-ranging fraud, extortion, and money laundering scheme, which involved one of their sons pretending to be a New York mobster in order to get a Maryland man to embezzle more than $4 million from his employer in Washington, D.C. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michael R. Sherwin and James A. Dawson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office.

In April 2018, a federal grand jury indicted Kaslov; Candy Evans; their sons Tony John Evans, Corry Blue Evans, and Robert Evans; and Robert Evans’ common-law ex-wife Gina Russell on various charges related to the extortion scheme. (more…)

“Why are the circling just about daily in certain areas in DC?”

Some responses: “In addition to the Marine one and decoys, park police starts circling 20 mins before each lift off and touch down.”

“1st Helicopter Squadron out of Andrews in holding patterns waiting for National traffic to clear for transport of minor VIPs.”

“For at least the past 30 min, a single Marine One (Presidential) Helicopter has been circling my neighborhood from about 12th St NW to 7th and M St NW to P. This is definitely not normal! What is going on?”

“Holding pattern. Standard military procedure, just sucks that is was over a residential area. Maybe they wanted to check out the Logan circle/Shaw area today.”

“DC Water Warns Customers About Scammers Impersonating Utility Workers”

From DC Water:

“DC Water is warning customers to beware of people claiming to represent the utility to gain access to their homes.

DC Water was made aware of a police report that says two suspects dressed as construction workers approached a home in the 3000 block of M Street, SE. Police say the men claimed to be from DC Water and said they “needed to check pipes inside the home. The homeowner refused to let them in, at which point the suspects produced a handgun and tried to force their way into the home. The homeowner was able to get the door shut and the suspects fled the location.”

The suspects do not work for DC Water and our crews will not try to gain access to a property without prior authorization. If someone claiming to be from DC Water shows up at your door asking for access, please do not allow them in. If you fear for your safety, call 911 immediately to report the suspicious behavior. We also ask that you call our Customer Care Department at (202) 354-3600 to report it. (more…)
