“Dear PoPville,

Question about car crahses in DC. Apparently the DC cops don’t come to fender benders or other accidents unless someone needs medical attention and an ambulance needs to be called.

I was not at fault and it took 4 months for the other party to make up a lie about hitting my car and now my insurance is liable to pay even though not at fault.

What has anyone else experienced in this situation? I called the cops after the accident and was told to simply go through insurance and then that backfired.”

Update, confirmed by MPD: “MPD is on the scene of a confirmed shooting in the 2900 block of 14th St. NW. No lookout.

Alan Henney reports at 2:10pm:

“DOUBLE SHOOTING— 2700 and 2900 blocks of 14th St NW-DC in Columbia Heights. One shot in the head, other in the arm. No suspect info yet.”

One reader reports hearing: “Heard the shots and the sirens at 14th and Fairmont NW. Stay safe everyone. Six to eight, in rapid succession.”

Another reader reports: “AppleTree Charter at 14th and Girard is on lockdown” Update: “Lockdown over at the school.”

Metrobus reports: “52/54/H2/H4 Delay: Due to police activity on 14th St NW at Columbia Rd, buses are experiencing delays in both directions.”

From AlertDC: “MPD reports the following road closures due to police activity:

2800 and 2900 Blocks of 14th Street, NW
1300 Block of Girard Street, NW

Please avoid the area.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) would like to warn the public about a financial telephone scam, where callers posing as representatives of MPD falsely assert criminal legal action in exchange for monetary funds.

The Metropolitan Police Department has been notified of multiple phone calls regarding scammers impersonating members of MPD who have attempted to extort individuals, claiming that federal subpoenas and warrants have been issued against them. We are informing the public that they are not members of the department.
