Update: All clear now!
Thanks to James for sending at 3:50pm: “Rhode Island Ave is closed off between Conn Ave & 17th St NW due to a bomb threat at Saint Matthews Cathedral”
Earlier today there was a bomb threat at the zoo which has since been reported all clear. Updates as more is learned about Saint Matthews Cathedral.

“Correction: juvenile curfew enforcement applies to anyone under the age of 17.”

“Juvenile curfew enforcement will focus on 7 key areas. Youth will be brought to Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), where the agency will connect with the youth and their families to proactively engage them and offer rehabilitative services and supports.” (more…)

Lots of folks have been asking: “Do you have any news on what happened between 17th and DuPont Circle on P? Police blocked off all entrances to that area with cars and tape”
“why P Street NW, between 17th and 18th is closed? Even giving pedestrians grief, so maybe it’s some kind of security thing?”

There was quite the scene tonight (Sunday) in Capitol Hill neighborhood, and an off-duty police officer was the instigator.
A lady was crossing East Capitol right across the street from the west side of Lincoln Park next to Wine and Butter Cafe. She started walking when the street sign said Don’t Walk and a guy pulled up in a Tesla dual-motor Model Y or Model S, stopped right in front of her, laid on his horn, and started screaming obscenities at her. He did not remove his hand from the horn and honked for the entire altercation which was probably about 4-5 minutes. (more…)

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that she has named Pamela A. Smith as the next Chief of Police at the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Smith has over 25 years of law enforcement experience, including serving as the Chief of Police for the United States Park Police in Washington, DC. During her service at the U.S. Park Police, Smith served in major city field offices across the United States, including San Francisco, New York, Atlanta, and Washington, DC. After retiring from the U.S. Park Police, Smith joined MPD in May 2022 as the department’s first Chief Equity Officer, assigned to the Executive Office of the Chief of Police. She made a significant impact in a brief time span and in April 2023, was promoted to the Assistant Chief of Police, Homeland Security Bureau where she leads the operational and administrative functions of the Special Operations Division, Joint Strategic & Tactical Analysis Command Center, and the Office of Intelligence. Chief Benedict has served as the Executive Assistant Chief of Police at MPD since April 2021 when he was appointed by Chief Contee. As the Executive Officer of the MPD, he has been responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the department. (more…)

DC Fire and EMS quote tweeted Andrew Leyden: “The crash / overdose on Connecticut Avenue is now a fatality despite a huge effort by @dcfireems to save this victim. Likely overdose as car accident was a minor fender bender.”
