“An accused “cell phone flasher” has been arrested by Metro Transit Police in connection with several recent incidents on the Metrorail system.

Metro Transit Police today announced new charges against Steven Andrew Slaughter, 22, of Washington, DC, for alleged lewd acts and an assault that occurred in January.

Starting in mid-January, Metro Transit Police detectives became aware of a series of incidents in which a male subject would approach female passengers on the Metrorail system and show them a lewd photograph of himself on his cell phone screen. In some cases, the suspect would approach victims claiming that he was raising money for a youth organization.

Slaughter was identified using Metro’s high-definition video surveillance footage, as well as witness statements and reports.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have announced that an arrest has been made in connection with an assault with a dangerous weapon that occurred in the 1100 block of 8th Street, SE.

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, at approximately 2:15 am, officers responded for the report of an assault. Further investigation revealed that an altercation took place inside of the establishment where an adult male was struck with a bottle. The suspect fled the scene and engaged in a second altercation in the 1100 block of 7th St SE where he assaulted a second adult male with a sharp item. The suspect then fled the scene. Both victims received treatment at local hospitals for their injuries.

On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, 22-year-old Terril Terry, Jr. of La Plata, Maryland was arrested by First District Detectives pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – Knife.”

“On today’s date [Wed. Feb. 5], at approximately 3:15 pm, an adult suspect robbed a female victim of her Iphone-5 as she walked in the 900 block of Euclid Street, NW.

Members of your 3-D VICE Unit were conducting covert operations in the same area when they observed the robbery and intervened. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and the victims stolen phone was recovered.

The suspect was arrested and charged with “Robbery Force and Violence”.”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department have announced that an arrest has been made in the Assault with Intent to Kill that occurred in the 1000 block of 20th Street, NW.

On Sunday, February 2, 2014, at approximately 3:30 am, officers responded for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound and other injuries that were sustained when he was struck by the suspects’ vehicle. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2014, 29-year-old Jonathan Blades of Gaithersburg, Maryland was arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging him with Assault with Intent to Kill in connection with the incident which occurred in the 1000 block of 20th Street, NW.”

“On Today’s date [Sat, Feb. 1], at approximately 15:15 hours members of your Third District VICE Unit along with the Districts Detectives arrested a subject in the 700 block of Fairmont Street , NW who was wanted in connection with a recent 3D “Armed Robbery”. The subject was taken into custody without incident and was found to be carrying a firearm at the time of his arrest.

A Search Warrant was subsequently conducted on a residence for which the defendant was connected, within the same area. This warrant yielded the recovery of several additional weapons and other critical evidence.

It should be noted: this apprehension was attained thorough the hard work of the 3rd District Detectives who worked this case, as well as assistance gained from the public. For that, we at the MPD are thankful.”

“At approximately 2:00 AM. Third District officers confronted a suspect who had assaulted a female victim in the 700 block of Fairmont Street, Northwest

During the confrontation with the officers, the suspect displayed a handgun and pointed it at the officers.

The officers quickly grabbed the suspect and disarmed him.

As a result of the quick action of the officers the suspect was taken in to custody and the handgun was recovered.

This is the 5th handgun and 3rd BB gun that your officers recovered over the past 2 days!”

“On Jan. 25th, during the early morning hours of 03:30 am, members of the Third District “Crime Suppression Team”, led by Sergeant Lashay Makal, had been conducting pro-active patrols in the area surrounding the neighborhood known as Columbia Heights. Members of the CST observed subjects acting suspiciously, conducted a traffic stop of their vehicle and ultimately recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol from within said vehicle. Both adult occupants were arrested and charged with illegally “Carrying a Pistol”. The arrest occurred at the intersection of 13th & Fairmont Streets, NW.

The “Crime Suppression Team” is a dedicated and select group of officers from the Third District that focus on street level crime such as, but not limited to; Robbery, Theft From Auto’s, Drug and Weapon Offenses. These officers typically work during the late night, early morning hours and are focused on the mission of making your neighborhoods safer places to live and prosper.

“On January 24, 2014, officers were patrolling as part of an initiative to combat package thefts in the Third District. While patrolling in the 1000 block of W Street, NW, the officers observed a subject walk up the steps of a residence, take a package, and place the item in the hood area of his sweatshirt. The officers continued to observe the subject as he approached a second residence in the same block. Before the subject could take packages from that residence, the officers made their presence known. The subject attempted to discard the package from his hood, but the officers were in a position to observe this and placed the subject under arrest.

“Listed below are recent robbery arrests made within the last week.

First District

Friday, December 18, 2013 at approximately 6:45 pm, two subjects approached an individual in the 600 block of H St NW and demanded money and property. One of the suspects stabbed the individual with an unknown weapon in the leg before fleeing the scene with the complainant’s cell phone. Two adult males were arrested for Robbery While Armed (Knife).

Second District

· Monday, January 6, 2014, at approximately 8:33 pm, a complainant reports that while in the 3000 block of Van Ness Street, NW, she was approached by two male suspects and a female suspect and knocked her to the ground. Taken was a wallet containing U.S. Currency, a debit card, and groceries. Two juvenile males and a juvenile female were arrested for Robbery (Force and Violence).

Third District

· Sunday, January 5, 2014, at approximately 11:00 am, a complainant reports he was approached from behind at Park and Luray Places, NW, and suspect snatched his wallet and fled the scene. An adult male was arrested for Robbery (Snatch).

· Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at approximately 11:56 am, a complainant reports she was approached by an adult male suspect and an adult female suspect, in the 1200 block of U Street, NW. Both suspects announced a robbery and demanded the complainant’s cell phone. Both suspects fled and did not obtain the complainants cell phone. Both suspects were arrested for Attempted Robbery.

· Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at approximately 3:57 pm, a complainant reports he was approached by three male suspects in the 700 block of Harvard Street, NW, The suspects threatened the complainant, and one of the suspects snatched the cell phone from the complainant’s hand and fled the scene. Two adult males and one juvenile male were arrested for Robbery (Snatch).

Fifth District

· Thursday, January 9, 2014, at approximately 8:07 pm, a complainant reports that while in the 1700 block of Gales Street, NE, he was approached from behind by two male suspects who struck the complainant in the face, knocking him to the ground. Taken was a jacket and cell phone. Two juvenile males were arrested for Robbery (Force and Violence). (more…)

“On Thursday, January 9, 2014, Third District officers were working as part of an initiative to combat the instances of package thefts within the Third District. At approximately 5:00 pm, the officers were in the 900 Block of P Street NW, when they observed two subjects walking East in the 900 Block of P Street, NW. One of the subjects was holding what appeared to be a black box and going through the contents of the box. The officers contacted the subjects and discovered that the box contained five pairs of eye glasses, each inside a plastic sleeve. During the course of the contact, one of the officers canvassed the area for any opened or discarded boxes and located an empty white cardboard box that the officers were able to link to the box being held by one of the subjects. The officers were then able to track the package back to the owner, who was able to confirm that the package in question had been delivered by the US Postal Service at approximately 4:30 pm. One of the subjects was then placed under arrest for Receiving Stolen Property.

“Yesterday afternoon at about 3:00 PM, two PSA 107 Officers saw a subject, known to them as a package thief, standing in the 200 block of 11th St SE holding several items that appeared to be package contents. The Officers made contact with the subject and after further investigation they were able to identify the property as being stolen from the front of a home in the 1100 block of Independence Ave SE. The subject, a 47 year old male of Southeast Washington, DC, was arrested and charged with theft and the stolen items were recovered.

Last night, shortly after midnight, 1D plainclothes Officers were conducting surveillance of a suspicious person in the 600 block of 7th St NE. As a result of the Officers operations, they stopped this subject in the 700 block of H St NE, and recovered stolen property that had been discarded by the suspect in 600 block of 7th St NE. Additionally, the suspect had several outstanding bench warrants that stem from earlier package theft arrests. This subject, a 52 year old male of No Fixed Address, was arrested and the property was recovered.”
